At a follow-up with my sleep doctor she noted that I had lost weight and thus gave me an open invitation to have another sleep study. After thinking a bit she said to contact her office no earlier than NOV14 to schedule a new study given that my previous study was done JAN14. Anecdotal evidence is not the best but that's all I have at the moment.

Really??!!
I'm not at all surprised to hear that a doctor would schedule one so quickly but I am shocked that ODSP or insurance would have paid for it so close to the first test.
Thank you as that will offer some hope as this friend has just undergone Bariatric surgery as of last week, hence, hopefully there should be a great weight loss, although in her case its not from overeating but medicine she must be on for the rest of her life and this other disease, Cushings I believe it is called so I don't know if a weight loss will be as successful as one would hope for.
But if they offered you that, then I have to believe they will her..................I guess I am going to have to look up a number for ODSP and phone them myself and just ask them for a general answer as they won't obviously talk to me if i am relating my questions about her.

Its an excellent place in which one can safely judge whether they have good reason to look further into the situation spoken of.

In fact its made me realize I would really be best off phoning them with my questions based on a general set of circumstances but I find government employees/bureaucrats for the most part not that well informed and they can very easily send you in the wrong direction, hence, why I hoped someone here might know but I understand why some might not wish to speak up and answer it for me.

Thank you for that info...its likely a hell of a lot more than I might get from the wrong bureaucrat

I'm glad I came across this thread. (actually I posted this message in another thread before I found this one!)

Living in Toronto, received a cpap prescription just a couple of months ago. I've had a loaner F&P since the middle of June or so. Much longer than expected because there were delays in whether or not I should have a cpap or apap, doctor on vacation, poor communication from clinic, etc.

When it comes to the machines I'm pretty perplexed at what happens with the ADP program.

1) They want to charge $300ish for a mask (Airfit P10) where the prices online are $100ish.
2) The F&P Icon+ Premo w/ heated tube looks to be available stateside for $509, through the provider here they want to charge somewhere around me $600 to $700 (hard to get a solid price out of them) in addition to what they will bill the ADP program. The Respironics 460 I'm looking at has a similar price from the provider but not the very low cost the F&P seems to have stateside.

My main issue is that if I can purchase an F&P Icon+ Premo stateside for less than what the provider is charging me directly AND not end up billing ADP(taxpayers) for another chunk of change… why wouldn't I buy online from the states?

There is the issue of how long they've let me hold on to the loaner (though I offered to return it over a month ago they said to hold on to it), they've provided decent service I'm just not convinced they've provided a level of service that is worth the exorbitant prices they seem to be charging.

Your collective insights are most appreciated!

The name slips my mind at the moment but because of it she developed a Moon shaped face and gained an extraordinary amount of weight.
Not that she had been given enough to deal with, she then developed Sleep Apnea.

This would have been just before the S9 came out as she was given an S8 machine, most likely I would guess, the Brick for with her illnesses she has had to resort to ODSP which is a disability pay for she won't ever be able to work again. Everything is going into fighting one problem after another.
A sweeter person you could not meet

Am trying to get her back on it and for her to sign in here and find out whatever it is she was doing wrong that caused her to walk away from it.

In any event, she never got the hang of CPAP and I have been trying to get her back on it but I want to know a couple of things first if anyone happens to have the answer please?

As she is on ODSP, how well would she be covered when she needs a new machine?
I believe at the time she didn't qualify for she received a large pay out but that has now been a few years and its more or less gone.

Today she relies 100% on her monthly disability cheque.

Under these new changes to Toronto, can anyone tell me how often someone on this disability, ODSP can have a sleep study and how often? Is it every 5 years?
For some reason that number sits in my head
Perhaps in her case they might make an allowance as she has had so many medical issues on the past couple of years but if i knew the regular time period between sleep tests i might be able to get her into another one very soon.

Secondly, on ODSP would she be able to get masks hoses, etc; covered or would there by a cost involved?
Last but not least, would she have to pay for a machine or would that be covered?

Due to her brain tumours in the past, I would assume she is working with the best doctor already as she is someone that has a great support team and due to a lot of good things she has done for Toronto, she's received a lot of accolades, celebrated on TV for her work and the doctors know her due to something she worked on, and are usually eager to help her or work with her so i have no doubt she would not have just used any old sleep doctor.

She won't really talk about it but has started to show interest again only because I now have it and so I can believe I can get her back on it but would really like to know what I am dealing with first. As in are there any huge bricks in front of her that i am not aware of, fiscally perhaps, that is preventing her from following through....
Am hoping there might be someone from Ontario on ODSP or familiar with how it works pertaining to CPAP that can tell me what exactly will be covered and how often.

Ive managed to set up situations where I arranged that her daughter would be given a brand new bike not once twice and other things along this line so I just want to know where she stands on this with ODSP first, before considering going to various companies and trying to set up merchandise in exchange for an interview with her, etc as its a lot of work for me to undertake but i will do it again if need be.........but hoping this time around ODSP will be all she needs?

thanks

TIA

Today she relies 100% on her monthly disability cheque.

When I was on odsp there was 100% coverage not only for machine and mask, but also for filters, mask seals, replacement hoses etc. Sleep study, I think is every 5 years. I didn't go until after 7 years. For low income seniors there is no medical coverage at all for many things needed. You only pay 25 % with ADP but you cannot get the mask that fits you properly without paying full price. They charge 90.00 just for a mask seal if you are a senior. Your friend should be covered on odsp though.
