I feel I should amend my previous post a little. In my opinion, a FFM will resolve the OP's original complaint (quoted above) of air leaking from the mouth during what seems to be exhale. However, as some have stated, even with a FFM, if one continues to breathe (inhale and exhale) through the mouth, then dry mouth is likely to occur.pdeli wrote:I just searched for the subject of "mouth Breathing" and got 14,400 references. Reading all of those will not be part of what I want to do for the rest of the day.
Here's my question: is there not a distinction between "Mouth Breathing" and "Exhaling through the Mouth"? No inhale, just exhale.
The pressure from the Nasal Mask can sometimes force air OUT of my mouth, and without getting into a debate about tape, it will sometimes force the air out of any small exit if the tape was not quite long enough. My major complaint is not so much that my throat opened to let air into my mouth, but that it wakes me up. The second major complaint is dry mouth.
From my own experience with nasal only type masks, tape, chin straps, etc, will not prevent the disturbance of air leak on exhale. Even taping so completely that air can not escape does not prevent disturbed sleep. It simply results in severe chipmunk cheeks and still the feeling of air moving the wrong way and I continue to be disturbed. For me, a FFM eliminates this disturbance.
