New here- Anyone get gurgling in throat with CPAP?

Post by bobajojo » Thu Feb 13, 2014 9:32 am

Hello,

I'm new here and I've been using a CPAP for about 2 years now. Just recently, I've been waking up to a gurgling sound in my throat. It feels and sounds like little air bubbles releasing and it right below my Adam's Apple. Its very loud and actually wakes me up. I have to assume its trapped air from my CPAP but its weird that I've gone 2 years without this sound. I tried using the search function and didn't find anything on this topic. Has anyone else had this?

I don't have a clue, I've been on CPAP for less than a month, but if you type "gurgling in throat" into the search box at the top of this page, you will get hits on some of the other threads that touch on this... some of them look to be on target with your problem.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.

Hey Matt: I think I can help with that: I need your specific machine type, your pressures, your mask and preferred sleep positions. It would also be nice if you could fill out your equipment profile.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

IMO, that's a snore trying to start up but failing. Your throat tissues are vibrating, but probably not collapsing all the way. Your airway would like to collapse but your 7.0cmH2O (pretty low pressure, BTW) is keeping it sort of halfway open, especially since you sleep on your back. I think your pressure needs to be raised in increments. There could be other causes of the gurgling but let's tackle the airway vibration first. I'm not a doctor so you should ask your doctor to raise your pressure. If you want to attempt to raise your PRs pressure yourself, send me a PM and I'll get you a link for the manual. Finally, Sleepyhead software works great with the PR S1... get it free at Sourceforge and install it. That will give concrete info on what the real issues are.

I have gurgling in my throat about there (I don't have an Adam's apple, of course) because of GERD. I gurgle and burble. Very annoying.
