Quick source for elbow connector or McGyver alternative

Post by mikeu1 » Sat Feb 08, 2014 10:08 am

Hi folks, wondering if anyone might have any creative ideas to help me out.

Got home from a business trip last night and found the elbow connector to my Quattro mirage FX missing. Searched
everywhere but couldn't find it. We just did a huge cleaning around here and those 4 old cpap masks i found in the closet?
Looks like I might have tossed all 4 instead of 3 as planned.

Called SleepRX and since I'm not on oxygen they don't consider this an emergency where they'd send someone out with
a part over the weekend. Problem is I'm going on a 2 week vacation Monday with my family and if I"m not on my machine
I'm certain they'll smother me with pillows and the first hint of snoring.

Going to try some of the more medical supply orientated pharmacies in the area. Actually thought of just going to the
hospital to see if they might have something as a long shot.

I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas about places I could try to find the connector before Monday, or can think
of anything else that might fit. My son''s got a bunch of nebulizer tubing i was looking through for parts but nothing
seemed like it would fit.

Down on the desperate list I'm looking at PVC or rubber tubing from the hardware store which I'm sure will be an adventure.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks

I would probably try rubber tubing or something from the hardware store and get a plumber's clamp to hold it on... alternatively, are there any full-size medical supply stores within a 90-mile radius that are open on Saturdays? There are several in my area that I can use if I have a weekend emergency - my DME is operated by Mayo Clinic so not open then. You could try the hospital option.... surely they have connectors; don't they sometimes need to have them on hand for a patient that is on CPAP? My Dad was McGyver type of guy so I always think creatively. Good luck!

I recently found a plastic elbow that fits my connection stub at my local True Value hardware in the plastic plumbing fittings-cost less than a dollar!!

try a sleep lab in your area, even if you have to use a different mask

couple of lessons learned here
always have a spare mask on hand
always have a spare of everything you use
dont be so quick to toss out the old masks
dont believe your dme when they say that you wont have to wait if your machine breaks

If your vacation is within the USA, you could order the part online and have it shipped to your hotel. Of course that won't help if you're going on a cruise or to another country.
