Changing machines........what to ask for

Post by Country4ever » Mon Feb 03, 2014 7:40 am

I'm seeing my cpap doc tomorrow and I'm going to ask for a script for a new machine.
I think I want the Resmed S9 that has the apap function also (although I've used only cpap function for 6 years now).
What should I ask for? I think there are several different versions of this machine.
I'll get the humidifier of course. I'm not sure the heated hose is necessary, so I probably won't want that.
Anything else I should be sure to have him write on the prescription?

Also........I'm a little concerned that the Resmed S9 has been out a long time. Is this a bad thing......to order something that is probably/maybe going to change soon?
Thanks for your help with this!

The S9 that has the APAP function...there are 2 models
The Escape Auto and the Autoset.

You don't want the Escape Auto...the data that it collects is extremely limited...doesn't even give a leak rate.
The model names are easily seen on the top of the blower unit up by the LCD screen.
So you want to see "AutoSet" up by the on/off button

We don't have any idea when the next series of ResMed machines will be released.
I know we all like the idea of the latest and greatest but since we have no way to know when...I look at it this way.
I get tried and true now and all the bugs and problems that always seems to come with the latest and greatest have been sorted out by the time I got my "new" machine.
When the S9 was first released...it had its share of bugs and problems.

I love my auto set! It's quiet and very reliable. Never had any problem in the 6 years I have had mine - it's a great travel machine too, very lightweight.

When did the S9 Autoset first come out?
(damn) DME told me only Escape and Elite were available in April 2010.

i got my first in August of that year. Then another one in June of the next year. (First-year bugs out the wazoo.)

I just picked up my new S9 Autoset today. I would not be afraid to buy one now based on whether or not it will be replaced with the latest greatest thing. If you need a new machine now and you're eligible, go for it.
