I actually started feeling great and started exercising and lost weight and found I really didnt need it anymore. Well, long story short, I've put some weight back on and my sleep apnea is rearing its ugly head again. My question is, can I just take my old cpap machine out of the attic, plug it in and start using it again or do I have to go through the whole process of having another sleep study done, etc...?
Should be able to just plug it in and use it.
Do you know which specific model it is? If it's a data-capable machine, you could then monitor your therapy and see how it's working.

Be sure your filters are clean before restarting therapy. If you were using a humidifier, give it a good cleaning or rinse and use distilled water. Be sure to clean the hose and mask, too.

If you have an auto set to an open range of 5-20, you should be all set.

Looks like you could use a little help in restarting. There is a book called "My Little CPAP Book" which has a lot of answers to many of the questions you may be asking yourself. Available on iTunes now but should be on Nook and Kindle in 2-3 days.

If you have a straight pressure machine, you could see your sleep doctor, ask for a 2 week in-home auto (a lot cheaper than a sleep study) which allows one of their autos to find the "magic number" to put on your CPAP machine. Might cost you about $50 after your deductible has been met. You may also consider getting a new cushion on your mask or even getting a newer style altogether. Start using what you have while you get the ball rolling on everything else. A little something is better than nothing just not ideal.

Couldn't help but notice this announcement in at least six posts by this poster (Chris?) in various threads this evening.

Totally agree and this is getting quite annoying. Sleep711, to establish credibility with the forum, how about you cease your sales pitch for awhile and introduce yourself so we can get to know you.

SleepWellwithCPAP did that even though he too wrote a book and has stuck around to answer member questions without promoting his book although it is in his signature. Perhaps if you did something like that, it would be less annoying.

I agree 100%, especially as the poster, in a couple of other threads, is giving out pop psychology info on things like PTSD, but in a way that sounds very superficial, and I wonder about credentials, never mind leading newbies down the garden path when others here have struggled for long times to get past some issues of sleeping with Cpap, learned a lot from experience and carefully offer really constructive help based on that, rather than sounding like PR people for their own 'advice'.
