Loud hose noise due to water - how to prevent it?

Post by fmj13 » Tue Jan 28, 2014 5:51 am

I got a bloody nose both days this weekend, so I turned up the humidifier level. However, the past 2 nights, I have been woken up by the loudness of the water going up the tube. I have a ResMed hose cover on it. What can I do? Despite having a white noise machine, this is too loud to prevent it from waking me up. I will turn down the level more again tonight, but I'd like to make sure I have enough moisture without having to be woken up by the noise.

the loud noise is due to water inside the tube. by another tube and just replace the current hose with the dry one afterreducing the humidity.

Check out post #3 in this thread...rain out in the hose

Do you have the Climateline heated hose? If not, I would get it.
If you have it already...what settings are being used? Automatic, if so what temp? If manual..what temp and humidity setting?

You don't say your nose is dry. The humidifier is to help prevent dryness.

If the ResMed hose cover is similar to the Respironics cover, it doesn't provide enough insulation to prevent condensation when the humidity level is set high and room temperature is low.

If you go to a fabric store, you can get fleece fabric and make an additional layer that will help.
Also, you can make a short piece to wrap around the short hose that connects from the main hose and the mask.
I use velcro straps to hold everything together.

Also make sure that your machine is below the level of your head when sleeping. If not, water will continue through the hose all the way to your mask.

No, but I will get one. I have slimlines only. Any suggestions on settings once I get one?

The default for the Climateline is for automatic humidity of 80% and I would suggest you just leave it at that.
When on automatic the only thing you can adjust is temperature and if your bedroom is fairly cool....I would do 78 to 82 degrees. I have mine set for max and I still get a tiny bit of rain out in the nasal pillow area of my mask.
If your bedroom temp is really cool...the max of 86 may be needed.
It all depends on your bedroom air temp but if you had it very warm to start with now...you wouldn't be having rain out in the hose.
So I am assuming temps are on the cool side now in the house.

Okay, I got the climateline and put it on right now. I checked and my Climate Control is already set to auto. Do I need to do anything different or will it know my hose is not a regular one?

If set to Automatic....then the machine knows you have the ClimateLine.
Likely the only choices if you turn the knob for humidity control will now be temperature.

When you attached the ClimateLine hose to the Humidifier, the screen would have said that it had recognized the ClimateLine hose. There is nothing else for you to do.

You may want to check what temperature it is set to.

Turn the large round knob left 1 click.
The screen will then show the set temperature.

If you do not like that temperature, push the same round knob down to select the temperature setting.
Then turn the same round knob either left or right to decrease or increase the temperature setting.

In Auto mode, temperature is the only thing you can set.

Thanks! I plan to use a climateline from now on...
