want to get new mask

Post by Grambi » Mon Jan 27, 2014 9:23 pm

Want to know if DeVILBISS Hybrid with mouth piece that has chin guard helps with leakage. I have a Mirage Liberty now it leaks as soon as my chin drops as I fall asleep or on my side head falls to side as I start to fall asleep. I would like to get a nasal only. Had a Resmed Swift FX but my Mouth would fall open. Does anyone know if the TapPap with mouth piece help the mouth from falling open?

Probably not like you are expecting or wanting. The mouth guard attaches to the upper teeth.
There's nothing to keep the mouth from falling open if the mouth has a tendency to drop open when asleep.
Chin strap might help if the mouth falling open is minor and only needs a little reinforcement to remind it to stay shut.
But if the chin is dropping a lot and causing big open mouth...I don't know if a chin strap would be enough and there's nothing in the Tap Pap itself that would likely stop the chin from dropping.

Regarding Hybrid vs the Liberty...there are people who love one but hate the other. While they are similar...they are not identical.

My mouth sometimes will open during the night and I do a little mouth breathing. I monitor my software reports to see just how bad the leaks are....it's very rare that the mouth breathing even reaches large leak territory.
I sleep through any mouth breathing or leaks...so I don't worry about minor mouth breathing.

What machine are you using? Do you use software to monitor your therapy?
If you would add your equipment to your profile (see how I have mine) someone could tell you about the software once we know what machine you are using if you don't already know.

You want a sure thing for a full face mask? Get a properly fitted Resmed Quattro FFM. The original, not one of these newer, hyped Quattro FXs or whatever. Get the original. its the best for jaw drop and mouth leak, period.

I have used the Liberty with lots of leaking due to jaw drop. I switched to the Hybrid and have had great results. The chin cup serves as a reminder to keep your jaw closed. If you have a really stubborn jaw, you could try a cervical collar. They are not uncomfortable and keep your head in a more upright position. This may even allow you to slightly lower your present pressure.

There is no sure thing...if there was, the Quatto would be the only ff mask sold. Eric...sometimes you need to think before you post.

Never new I could get my own software so I can monitor myself. I have not had any update from my SD card for over a year. I did add my equipment info.

Hmmm. Not showing up. Did you click on "submit"?
Some of the links are broken to some of the equipment. What brand and model machine are you using?
