I am using Windows 7. I am using the disk that came with it. I will check on the other software.Pugsy wrote:The computer isn't finding the device for some reason and I am not real good with fixing those kinds of problems.
Normally the pulse ox software should contain the driver software for the device.
Did you try both softwares that are available at the pulseoxstore? I know that one of the softwares works and the other doesn't.
When I got my 50DPlus....I had to make sure I got the correct software.

The best luck I had was to use the CD that came with the device. I downloaded the latest version and had no luck... I had to do as Goofproof said - I had to uninstall all the software that I was trying to get it to work and start over with the CD. That was the only way I got mine to work.

Re: Pulse oximeter
I have tried every suggestion except for trying another computer. My computer is less than a year and a half old. I guess it isn't going to work for me. I really need it to work because my O2 levels go up and down even when I am using my prescribed settings on my concentrator. I wanted to be able to print out a report so my doctor could see is my setting needs to be raised.

If you will send me your e-mail address, Stormy, I will forward the e-mails between Kevin and I on this subject. It finally turned out that the cable I was positive was the right one, wasn't.

Troubleshooting the CMS-50E is a bear. Unfortunately, troubleshooting this type of connectivity problem quickly gets into details that no regular computer user should have to deal with, but unfortunately, the folks who designed the CMS-50E decided not to take the more expensive route of making their software and hardware easier to use.Stormynights wrote:I have a CMS 50 E and I am too ignorant to figure out how to make it work.
I have a CMS-50E and will try to help.
Here's what I understand so far:
Your computer is running Windows 7. It is less than 2 years old.
Can you tell us exactly what software programs you installed with the CMS-50E? Did you install them from the CD that came with the unit? Again, you will get lots of different pieces of advice, but for me, the software that was on the disk did not work for me, and I ended up using newer software from the Pulse Ox Store. The software that works for me is SpO2 Assistant version 2.2.
The reason you need to be certain to use the cable that came with your device is that it is not "just" a cable. The thick end by the USB connector actually contains electronics that convert what is known as a serial device into USB that the modern computers can better understand. (This was my point above - if the developers had built-in the proper USB electronics to the device instead of requiring the converter, we would all have an easier time of this).
Please try the following:
1) plug the CMS-50E into the cable.
2) plug the cable into a USB port on your computer
3) turn on the CMS-50E (you may need to keep a finger in it so it senses a pulse and does not turn off)
4) On the computer, Click on the Start menu. Select Devices and Printers from the right side of the pop-up window.
You should see a listing of devices inside or attached to your computer. On mine, there is an entry for:
Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (COM3)
This is the connection to the CMS-50E. Do you see something like that?
Let me know how it goes and we can continue from there based on what you see.
John

Yes I see that except it says (COM15) I tried all the different versions of the software. I have the SpO2 Assistant version 2.2. installed now. It just shows Scanning...Please wait. It just stays stuck there.JohnO wrote:Troubleshooting the CMS-50E is a bear. I finally got this set up and working on my old crappy mini computer. At least I can use it now, but I would like to use it on my computer that I use most of the time.

Re: Pulse oximeter
This seems strange that it would work on the other computer and not this one. They are both Windows 7.

Re: Pulse oximeter
External devices (such as these serial to USB devices) are very finicky. It is possible that there is some conflict with the software driver required for this device that is not in conflict with anything on your other computer.Stormynights wrote:This seems strange that it would work on the other computer and not this one. The next thing I would try is to remove the driver program that interfaces to the USB-Serial converter, and then re-connect the USB-Serial converter to see if it re-installs the driver automatically.
If you want to try that, from the Start Menu go to Control Panel --> Program --> Uninstall a Program.
From there, look for the Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge (Driver Removal) entry and then select it. Right-Click and select uninstall/change.
After that, disconnect the USB cable (if it is connected) and re-install the SpO2 software. It is OK if you re-install it on top of the existing software, but I went out to the pulse-ox web site ( http://www.pulseoxstore.com/Manuals-Downloads.html )and downloaded the slightly newer 2.4 software and installed that.
Once it is installed, re-attach the USB cable, and you should see some activity in the lower right hand of your screen about re-installing a driver. If it is successful, try to launch the SpO2 program again. Turn on the CMS-50E, put it on a finger, (to keep it running) and hit the refresh button in the SpO2 program and see if it sees the unit.
Good Luck!
John

Re: Pulse oximeter
Computers use operating systems to run, Windows 7 comes in two flavors, 32bit and 64 bit, The software drivers have to match what software you are trying to run. Odds are your newer computer is 64 bit, progress sucks!
If your computer is running windows 7, 64 bit, your program and drivers need to be for Windows 7 64 bit.... Don't go fooling with Windows operating system, you will be up the creek.... Download the program that will work with your O.S., remove the programs you installed for the pulse ox. restart your computer. Load the correct version of thd pulse ox software, cross fingers and say a prayer. Crossing toes while psinful helps too, but don't fool with Windows.... Jim

Re: Pulse oximeter
Now I just need to figure out how to get the recorded data. Do I just turn off the record?

Re: Pulse oximeter
Here's what I do.Stormynights wrote:Now I just need to figure out how to get the recorded data. Do I just turn off the record?
1) Turn off the recording on the CMS-50E
2) Connect device to PC
3) turn it on, and keep a finger in the CMS50E. (There must be a better way...)
4) Choose option to connect.
5) Click in box to show "view stored data only"
6) You should see a listing of files stored on the CMS-50E. Usually just the last recorded data.
6) Click the check box next to the entry
7) Click "Receive Data"
You should receive a message, with one of the items saying "Finished Receiving Data" You can remove your finger from the CMS-50E.
9) Click OK - you should be back at the main window.
10) Click the large icon that shows a file folder
11) You should see listing of all the stored data files that you have loaded onto your computer from the CMS-50E
12) Double-click on the line item that interests you
13) You should now see the strip charts with your data. There are different ways to display the data up on the reports menu.
14) From here, I usually print out the results I want.
Good Luck!

Re: Pulse oximeter
Thank you so much John. Now I will have the information I need to show my doctor. I knew my o2 level was very erratic because I could feel it. Now I can show it. Maybe this is normal, but I don't know for sure. Now I can find out.
