I've been a C-pap and now am a bi-pap user. I use moisture as my nose gets too dry with the air blowing so fast and hard that it dries out my nasal passages. When I wore a regular face mask, my pressure was 19/15 (yes quite high). Now with nasal pillows my sleep dr has put the pressure at I think 12 or so. Anyway, my problem is that the past few nights I would wake up with my nasal passages so stopped up I can't breath and sometimes I wake up to spray my nose so it would open up. at times it works other times not like tonight. could it be too much moisture could 'waterlog' my nasal passages?
I need an answer soon as I can't handle not being able to sleep through the night. PLEASE HELP!!
bi-pap machine and nasal pillows
Re: bi-pap machine and nasal pillows
Very likely too much... it certainly can cause congestion in many people, so I would turn it down.

Yup, some people need more, some people need less. When it's wrong for you, you get congestion. So try turning it down.Julie wrote:Very likely too much... it certainly can cause congestion in many people, so I would turn it down.

OK.

You have to know this figure.
If you don't know it, call and ask them.

Is it an automatic?
(Automatically adjusts the pressure up or down as needed.)
If yes, ask them:
1) the starting pressures (high and low) and
2) the range (min and max).
The max should never be set too high because some machines increase the pressure too high too often. A setting of two or three above your prescription is often good.
If not an automatic, ask them what the (constant) set pressure is now.
> now am a bi-pap user
Bi-pap machines are often used by people with some sort of a breathing problem. Sometimes (not all the time) the problem is breathing through the nose (deviated septum, turbinates, whatever).
> Now with nasal pillows
People who have difficulty breathing through their nose should not use nasal pillows.
> sometimes I wake up to spray my nose so it would open up.
Then it might be a humidifier problem instead of a pressure problem. (It could be both.) Try adjusting the humidifier setting in both directions, for three nights each way, to get a feel for the effect.

you mention moisture and using a spray but not what is in this spray or using a humidifier.Pattisuzy wrote:I've been a C-pap and now am a bi-pap user.
