Resetting after being sick?

Post by Starpilot » Wed Jan 15, 2014 5:05 pm

Hey all,

I have been super compliant since I got my machine at the beginning of December. I was starting to feel pretty good -- not perfect by any means, but pretty good. At the very beginning of this year, I got a super-flu. I was sick for two weeks and during that time I used the CPAP as much as I could bear but there were a few nights in a row I couldn't do it at all and then a couple other nights where I only used it for a few hours each night. Also during this time I quit coffee (I still take a hot chocolate or iced tea per day but would like to cut that out too).

The last three nights I've been back on the machine all night. But I feel super crappy today! Just really run down and tired.

Is it likely that I've sort of "reset" to the point before I started using the machine? Does this sound like an experience any one else has had? Its really frustrating!

You may be over 'the flu' in terms of not being in bed, or being back at work, but it can take a long time for your system to be back to normal... and that will affect everything to some extent.

If you are sleeping without your therapy then most likely you have set yourself back.
Just because you have the flu does not mean your OSA is going wait for you to get better. You have to be able to sleep
and breath at the same time all the time.

Good Luck!

You are probably still recovering from the flu. I wouldn't worry about it. If you are using the machine again, you should start feeling better soon.

If you nasal passages are still irritated you maybe mouth breathing and losing therapy. Have you looked at your data in detail?

Thank you all. It's reassuring.

I hadn't thought about the mouth breathing thing, because it hasn't been an issue so far. I did notice last night that when I woke up (which I did several times) my mouth was open a little. But I think my tongue was still blocking the air coming out? I notice that in general I have to open my mouth pretty wide to feel the air coming out of my mouth. But maybe even opening it a little can cause leakage?

I'm going to try to look at my data today.

Thanks!
