Positional Issues and Question

Post by Lukie » Fri Jan 10, 2014 2:21 pm

Last night, sleeping mostly on my side my AHI for 9 hours of sleep was only 0.3

Today I took a nap for half an hour that was on my back. My AHI for 30 minutes was 13.6

My pressures are set at 6-16. When I woke up from the nap and looked my pressure was 9.6.

I'm wondering if the machine is giving me adequate treatment when I lie on my back.

Too wide a pressure range allows apnea to happen, when using apap, I limit my pressure range to 2 cm under and one over my needed cpap pressure. Jim

Lukie - what kind of mask do you have? If it's not a full face, and your mouth opened when on your back, then you well might have lost lots of air that way.

Well I wore the same nasal mask last night after the nap and the AHI went down to 1.1 so I believe those high number of pre sleep apneas were not when I was fully asleep coming from dozing during a nap. My AHI is generally much lower with a nasal mask as opposed to a ff mask. They also occurred while lying on my back which I rarely do.

Why ask us? Take a nap of 90 minutes or more on your back and see what results you get. Check not just the event chart but also the leak line.

It is a fact that many patients require a higher pressure on the back as compared to sides or stomach.
