Default Settings On Resmed S9 Vpap Auto?

Thanks for your input on my being on the right track...

Sleepyhead says that over the past month, my median RR is 13.87....95% level is 17...... my max is 23.

Overall, it is pretty darn normal, but I just get the feeling that the IPAP / EPAP changeover is causing my breathing to be a tad faster.

my RR seems to jump in conjunction with positional leaks.

Aliens seriously invaded my overall sleepyhead data last Friday....the charts says that my leak level was 19,700 for about 20 seconds and my minimum RR was -6500 & flow limit was -327....... LOL

I've settled on a setting of 2.3 for Ti..... it's not too far from the default setting of 2.0... but it's just enough to stop the feeling of being forced to change from inhalation to exhalation....

Based upon the past 2 weeks at that setting, my respiration rate in sleepyhead has dropped ever so slightly.

My husband just got the VPAP S9.

Tonight was his 1st night to use. After 2 hrs. he became extremely frustrated and gave up. He said he could not exhale. He said he felt like he had to force air out his nose and was constantly trying to exhale by mouth because he didn't feel he could breathe. He said the machine was making him breathe too fast as well.

Everything was set by the sleep consultant, but he just told me that if this was the case, he would not wear it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It took me 20 years to get him to the sleep clinic. 2 Years for him to pick up the machine. 3 weeks to actually put hook everything up. Was really hoping this would be easy.

If only a few adjustments is necessary, I can help him do that.

It would be better if you could start a new thread of your own instead of piggy backing onto this old thread. A lot of the forum members won't see your request for help here if they don't read old threads (and a lot don't).

I have a couple of ideas but it would be helpful to know
1...what mask he is using
2...is he using the ramp feature if so how long
3...is his trouble actually exhaling against the pressure or is he having trouble feeling like he isn't getting enough air...sort of stifled or suffocated feeling.
4..what pressure settings are currently being used
5...what VPAP is he using...the S model or the Auto model? It should show up on the machine up by the on/off button which model he has. If Auto model...which mode of operation.
