CardUtility.exe -- Erase Card

Post by xyz » Fri Jan 10, 2014 10:56 am

I recently purchased EncoreViewer 2.1.3.0 from cpap.com to replace an ancient version on an ancient computer.

On that old computer I also used CardUtility.exe to erase the card after reading it.

But the home website for that utility, http://www.mycpap.org, is longer active.

Where can I get a copy of CardUtility.exe?
Or is there an alternative to it?

I don't know of any alternative program....I also don't know if what I have will even work on your Win 7 Home Premium computer.

The newer Encore programs offer a choice to erase the Smart Card or SD card after download....so the need for the card utility program is no longer a factor.
If you don't have that choice available with your EncoreViewer version....I don't know what to tell you but with Basic or Pro...it is available.

I don't understand. There's a newer version of EncoreViewer than the 2.1.3.0 that cpap.com shipped me this week?

Thank you to pugsy and wulfman for the pm's.

I cannot help with EncoreViewer at all. I am not going to spend money on it when I get same thing for free.

Encore Viewer is not the same as Basic or Pro. With Encore Basic or Pro there is an option to erase after a download.
I do believe that the Viewer version being currently sold by cpap.com is probably the most current Viewer version....just remember that Viewer is not the same thing as Basic or the other Pro versions.

There is no real critical need to erase anything after a download though.....no matter what software is used or which mode of data collection.
You are welcome to try the card utility program that I sent you but I have no idea if it will even work on your new Windows OS.

Use Windows Explorer on your machine and highlight the card, right click, and select Format to erase the data on the card.
Don't select Quick Format as that just rewites to directory but does not erase the files.

Naturally, be very carefult that you are really pointing at your data card and not your system hard drive or you could lose everything.

Try this.
It is specifically for SD, etc cards.

I've used "SD Formatter" for cards that neither Encore nor Windows would recognize (forgot circumstances-- think I yanked them out of some peoples' cameras at a wedding) and it did the trick.

That you for the replies. My machine uses the old SmartCard (which is the size of a credit card), not an SD card.

Where do I get Basic?

Thanks to Pugsy and 6PtStar for additional PMs.
Here is what I have learned.

EncoreViewer and EncoreBasic are both products from Respironics.

EncoreViewer 1.0.0.3 ran on our oldest computer. The executable has a create date (not install date) of 9/18/07. It stopped working, possibly due to a Windows update (.net error).

Recently I ordered a newer version of EncoreViewer from cpap.com for $99. It was version 2.1.3.0 with a create date of 2/12/13.

The results that are displayed appear to be the same between the two versions of EncoreViewer. The new version allows saving the results into a pdf file. With the old version I used a third party utility to save the output file. So that's a plus. The new version claims to read both the old SmartCard (which I have) and SD cards. And it works with newer pap machines.

I now have EncoreBasic 2.2.2.0 working on a Win 7 Home Premium 64b computer. Its create date is 7/16/12. The functionality between EncoreBasic and EncoreViewer 2.1.3.0 appears to be identical.

One other thing. The new versions erase the card. No need any longer for CardUtility.exe.

Bottom line: no need to spend $99 on EncoreViewer. Use EncoreBasic.

If you still have the old Mako DT3500 SmartCard reader, you'll need drivers.
