Need some hope...
Need some hope...
I had a home sleep test done in June last year..
I was not given a titration study..which I didn't know was not normal..
I was given an Apap machine weinnmann somnibalance e with a setting of 4-14..
The machime changed my life..the fatigue lifted..no brain fog..energy like a kid...
I started smoking again and put on 10 kilos..weight
I live in Germany and I had only used the machine in summer months .
When it started to get cold I had lost my job still was smoking..and started to feel my symptoms coming back
Three months later..I've tried everything..different sleep schedules..saline sprays..breathe right strips..I stopped smoking..Three different masks..
I've had the pressure changed from 6-16
My data on the machine is locked...My sleep doctor..is I'll his replacement doesnt have a clue..
I've got to wait two months for a sleep study..
I think my average pressure is 10-14..so from 6-10 is a long way for the machine to go..
My question is I keep waking up after a vivid dream feel like I was in Rem..pressure is at my norm between 10-14
I can't get back to sleep
I know between 6-10 I might be having episodes..Im trying different meds to sleep
If I get to pressure 10 say aroung 1am..if I sleep at 10pm
If I manage to sleep through and the pressure holds..is the 6 hrs on the good pressure not enough for a better sleep..
I know I have two months..I am soo tired and despressed..not able to do much..and miss the sleep I was getting..
I wanna tweak this..I'm scared c pap was not for me and there's no hope..but if it worked once why not work again..
I'll wear a mask all the night all my life if it helps...

Re: Need some hope...
First - what meds or type of meds are you on - they can effect how well you sleep... Second, you need to find someone who can show you how to change your pressure settings, because your machine is foreign to us - though I remember someone did give you information on your thread here last time... did you follow their advice? Have you Googled for local help with your machine and people there who know how to adjust it?

Im not on any meds...
Also I've asked around...the machine has no s.d
Only a seriel port to connect to a laptop..the cable is only sold to technisions..you can't buy it anywhere..
I'm gonna try some sleep medication..see if that helps

Re: Need some hope...
NO! That will possibly make your apnea worse! I have no idea what you're talking about re cables, etc., but you must find out from someone there (we're in N. America) about your machine and get it sorted out properly.

Re: Need some hope...
It sounds like there is data capability in your machine, but only accessible by the technicians or the doctor. Can you search for another place to have your machine information read? Are you required to stay with the same doctor clinic and machine supplier? Not knowing about your health care industry is a challenge for us!!! We are fortunate here in N. America that we can access clinicians manuals and software to read our machines. That information is harder to find, at least for us. Even if the new doctor is clueless, that may be your only way to see your data. Maybe you can get someone in his office to show you what they can??
Try, try again!! A search for software come up with this. It sounds like it's for the user, not the profesionnals.

						Re: Need some hope...
Sleep meds make your system more depressed... you may sleep deeper, but if you're not using Cpap it's not a good idea... what's the name of the medication?

Hope": You woke up this morning and had to to the bathroom which meant you were still alive.
Hope : No one you love has died in the last week. No one you love has become a mass murderer or been murdered by a mass murderer in the last several hour or maybe even days.
Hope: You did not wake up to an artificial sun caused by a nuclear holocaust.
Hope: If you can only get at it there may be treatment for your medical problems.
Hope: Sleep apnea is not catching so you will probably not give it to family members.
No matter how black it is there is always some good news and HOPE!

Re: Need some hope...
Yes I have been very depressed. I held my mother's hand while she died. I had to tell good friends who were on vacation that there 20 year old son had committed suicide and that I would meet them at the airport when they flew home.
I had to be with my dying father when he had a 2hour talk with me about he was afraid to die.
I had tumor induced osteo-malacia which is very rare and causes bones to break. While suffering from this i had to continue to work because someone needs to feed the family. When they found the tumor I had over 100 breaks and stress fractures.
I had to go 8 years without health insurance because of preexisting conditions. During that time I broke both my wrist and ankle and set them the best I could. Now that I have health insurance my wrist will have to be rebroken and reset.
Since I got medicare in May I have been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea, Afib, I have had to have 10 units of blood because my iron counts get so low from my anemia, I have Krohns disease, and a brain tumor. I am currently under care from a psychiatrist for my depression.
I have learned several things, among them; If you fixate on your depression, or its causes, it does not help but makes it worse. People who give advise may be ignorant and wrong but they are trying to help so love them. A smile and or a giggle is a sign that you are getting better.
I am very sorry if my advice, to think of how things could be worse will help you see the temporariness(sp?) of your problems, and that they are not as serious as they might be, insults you. Please forgive me.

Re: Need some hope...
Kal81 - Antihistamines are for allergies, not depression or any other emotional or mental problem... are you sure that's what you're on?
They are also likely to make you sleepy, but not the kind of sleep you need. I would really like to help you (as I'm sure everyone else here would), and the more info you can give us the more we will try. And don't worry about labels (depression, etc.) as that's not important - until you can feel better because you're getting enough sleep, you will feel lousy and that's understood. Try to find help, more information on your machine from somewhere if at all possible.

Kal81... let us know when things begin to turn around for you. I hope that's real soon! I have been there too... I can bet that many on this forum have also. Get your sleep apnea sorted out. Sleeping well helps depression.

						Re: Need some hope...
Kal,
I don't know that I can offer you much. I had started CPAP and it was misery. I told the doctor that his cheap machine made me worse! He gives me a loaner and orders the machine I wanted (a more expensive machine). I felt GREAT on the Loaner...YEAH...life is getting better! I get my new machine. I felt like crap. What do I do? Loaner machine was working, now I get better machine and it's not working. Well...the folks here gave me ideas, I realized that the exhale setting was too high. I reduced that, LIFE IS GOOD!
I think the only thing I can offer to you is that a few minor adjustments can really make a difference! You know it can work for you so that's a good thing! What you need to do is explain to the substitute doctor "Look, I was feeling really good, but now that I'm smoking and gained weight, maybe that's affecting my pressure needs. Maybe I need another sleep test or I need access to the data on the machine so that I can get help to adjust my machine to my latest condition." Many times, a clueless doctor will say "Sure, if you can get help, I'll give you the info". But let's say he's scared...doesn't want to give you information since he can't control how you'll use it. Ask him "Dr, respectfully, I get the feeling Sleep Medicine isn't your specialty and you know my regular guy is not available. Could you refer me to another sleep specialist because I'm getting worse and worse and I won't get better until my cpap is properly adjusted for me".
I really got into trouble for awhile there because I was MORE sleep deprived than I was when we started AND doctor was really pulling stunts. So I made some mistakes. But I slowly realized, got advice here, talked to my friends and I got things fixed. I'm getting better and I'm starting to feel true hope.
For me, hope came after I got true help to fix my machine and once the machine was fixed, I was feeling better.
