PRS1 Auto 560 Automatic On - Works Intermittantly

Post by filovirus » Tue Jan 07, 2014 7:07 am

I have noticed intermittent issues with the machine not turning on when I draw a breath. Sometimes it works normally and it is on right away. Other times I cannot get it to kick on no matter how hard I try. This is using a Quattro fx and Quattro air masks with the machine.

Is there a setting to adjust the draw that starts the machine or is it simply on/off? Guess I need to just take it to my dme and have them look at it.

regards,
filo

When I had a pr1 I found it would not always work for me, same as you. Don't think it is adjustable. I have an s9 now and the auto on works every time, first breath.

Sometimes it works while I am putting the mask on and sometimes it just ignores me and I have to push the button. A minor inconvenience.

Put your finger over the anti-asphyxiation valve and take a deep breath. That will get it to kick on.

So does it trigger on inhalation or exhalation?

DME says the unit is working. Had one in April that kicked on within a few breaths. This one is from November and hasn't seemed to work as well for auto on as the first one. I had a couple of nights where I shut the cpap off in my sleep and then slept without it feeding me pressure. Scared my wife too.

Does the humidifier level have an impact on the auto on? What other settings impacts it?

Thanks,

F.

It kicks on with inhalation. I think it has to do with the volume of the mask.

When mine consistently didn't start in the first few breaths, I stopped relying on it and just hit the button.

I do not know how it is with Respironics, but ResMed does not work if minimum pressure is set too low, I think it's under 7 cmH2O. It has been discussed here before.

Try the cover the valve trick, and take a good, deep breath. It works.
