ResMed Tango - does it actually sense pressure?

Post by BorisG » Tue Dec 31, 2013 8:36 am

Hello everyone,

I have been using CPAP for the past three years or so. Initially I had a Respironics and was pretty happy with that. Recently I had to move overseas, which also meant having to return my Respironics (covered by my insurance) and buying another machine. I decided to give the ResMed Tango (C-series) a try. My pressure setting is relatively low (6.0) and I have no special needs as far as setting up a ramp time, using a humidifier, etc. I must say however that the ResMed gives me the impression to be incorrectly set. Being an electronics hobbyist myself I decided to have a look inside; unlike the Respironics that clearly has at least two pressure sensors (and feels that way, since you clearly notice a flow increase when you remove the mask), the ResMed doesn't appear to have anything but a fancy circuit board and a blower.

Clearly the ResMed is a cheaper unit, but it doesn't seem right to me that this is not a closed-loop system. Does anyone have information on this?

Thanks,

Boris

Boris,

How did you get a Resmed Tango machine? Resmed stopped making these machines years ago. Since then, Resmed has come out with the S8 and the current newest model, the S9 series.

And, you will notice some upgrades with the newer models.

I was able to find a User's guide for your current machine: http://www.directhomemedical.com/machin ... rguide.pdf.

And, The technical specs: http://www.directhomemedical.com/machin ... tsheet.pdf.

You didn't ask this but I thought I'd throw it in as your current machine is very old. There is a website called 'SecondWind' that sells brand new or gently used CPAP machines. I just looked and, today, they are selling a gently used Resmed S9 with accessories for $349.

Good Luck, sir,

Dear TheWino,

Thanks for your reply. I got my machine at a regular CPAP store. Just google it and you'll see that the Tango is widely available everywhere. And although it is very quiet I don't like it. I'm thinking of going back to Philips (Respironics), even though it's more expensive.

I'm still curious about the pressure/flow sensing thing. To me it's unthinkable that you put a device like this on the market without any kind of sensing.

Cheers,

Boris

Some of the companies that build the most intelligent machines, also make the dumbest bricks--
to be used by DME's freely in their daily bait and switch operation.
The Tango may be for sale in some places, but new ones have not been made for years.

For a basic "brick" machine like that, it doesn't have to do any pressure sensing........just blowing.
