Sleepyhead Data - Time Asleep & Quality??

Post by 95C4 » Thu Dec 26, 2013 9:31 am

My AHI for last night was 0.8, yet I know I spent a certain amount of time awake listening to the mask noise.

My machine screen will tell me how many hours it was on during the night.

Is there anywhere in Sleepyhead data that will tell me:

(a) How many hours I was "asleep", & for a definition of that I will just use , "Unconscious"/ not awake.

(b) How many hours [if any] I got of "restful/restorative/quality" sleep, [& I am not sure of the definition of that]

Thanks

No. Your CPAP has no EEG attached to it, and the only way to tell when you are "unconscious" or "not awake" is with an EEG. Your CPAP also does not have any kind of accelerometer like those used in the FitBit bracelets, so there is no way to measure movement while in bed---the FitBit and similar devices infer when you are alseep from the movement data provided by the accelerometer

The best measure of restful, restorative, quality sleep is how you feel in the morning and how well you function during the day. We can attempt to measure that by objectively looking at how much REM and how much Stage 3 (Slow wave sleep) a person gets, how many total sleep cycles they go through during the night, and how much time is spent in "wake after sleep onset (WASO)", but all of those measures of sleep quality require an EEG. And a CPAP does not have an EEG, so there's no way to get all the sleep stage information off of the CPAP data.
