This is hilarious. Paul Krugman tries to make a point that the Canadian health care system is great, asking the question "How many Canadians in here think their health care system is terrible?"

It turns out almost all of them did!

Who really are these people all posting here about how great Canadian socialized health care is? Something funny is going on in this forum.

Very funny.... this was posted in 2009.. a lot of water under the bridge since then. I, nor anyone I know have any problems with healthcare, I can get tested for whatever I want, whenever I want and do not pay any premiums to Alberta healthcare. Pure BS!!!!!!!

What do you do Choker, just go through old info and post it here to see whose blood pressure will rise to the occasion so you can get an argument going. Bring on the popcorn folks.... and make that green and red popcorn for Christmas .

When it comes to how cpap therapy is dealt with, each province deals with it differently. My experience with the Canadian system has always been positive. That being said, I have generally been a healthy person and have always had employer health extended benefits that have covered everything I needed. I would suspect Canadians that are generally not healthy would probably not agree with my positive assessment of our system, if only by virtue of being more dependent than me on it.

Reading many of my US fellow hose-head comments on this forum, though, have really given me the impression that the Canadian system that I have experienced is vastly superior to the US system. When people are sick it is pretty tough to get objective data from them to make conclusions in the effectiveness of either system. Problem is, the people with the most experience using the system are the ones that are sick and therefore may not be reliable, objective data sources.

The American healthcare insurance industry has spent a LOT of marketing money convincing us how crappy health care is anywhere in the world where it is not run by for-profit healthcare insurance companies. There has been a lot of debunking along the way, but some people just believe what they want to believe, and don't care about things like facts.

That's okay, you eventually get what you deserve...unfortunately, so do the rest of us.

Edit: Here's a book about the marketing of the US healthcare insurance industry from an insider. I don't know what axes he has to grind, but I recognize the tactics that he describes, so there's at least a grain of truth here:
