I'm out of surgery. They had me on CPAP in recovery, and an oxygen saturation monitor. As I listened to what was going on in the other bays, it sounded like everyone was on CPAP.

You've already made sure they didn't remove anything you were supposed to keep?
I'm glad you're out of surgery; now get well!

It is remarkable how many checks there are on that kind of thing at hospitals today. I've been asked my birthday more times than I've had birthdays, and colored on by staff marking surgical sites (cut on the dotted line?).

I ended up with no pain and no narcotics. That amazes me. I had a laminectomy and two discs whittled down a bit. I thought I would have to be drugged up, but I felt fine and didn't need anything. I'm more stiff and sore today, but no pain pain, if you know what I mean.

I love APAP. The hospital ignored my prescription and used an autotitrating machine. It was some kind of Respironics bipap unit. I had so much less air leakage than usual. I wish I could read my AHI. Assuming this did a good job of controlling my apnea, and I feel like it did, then I need one of these babies. I got by with much less than my usual pressure. My eyes feel good and I'm not full of air. This was a revelation.

My thoughts exactly after I trialed PR S1 Bipap Pro that I bought for a friend...I sent it on to her after 3 days but told her if she hated it I would gladly buy it back...her response after the first night..."over my dead body".
So I had to go find my own.

I don't love this, but for one night I'm not going to make a fuss -- especially since I doubt it would do any good. I'll be too narcotized to put up a fight. I wii bet, though, that the nominal charge (before insurance discount) for using the hospital's CPAP will be more than the reasonable price of a new CPAP. Anyone know from experience what the bill will be? Two years ago, when I was allowed to use my own, the charge for inspecting it and approving it was $700, if I recall correctly. This will probably be more.
After reading this all I could think of was that I am glad I live in Canada and especially in a Province where all Sleep Apnea costs are absorbed through the Provincial Health Plan including new headgear , masks and related accessories each year. Americans seem to be of the opinion the Canadian health system sucks but I am sure all would love to have this benefit. All costs are funded through General Tax Revenues. We do wait a bit longer for a lot of medical procedures but we don't pay anything for them. When I was in hospital recently for a week I used my own CPAP equipment and there was absolutely no issues with anything.

Yes. That's a lazy approach, isn't it? The nurse had no idea how to read or reset it.

My insurance got charged $244 for a one night pulse/ox. Their discount was only $20. And I picked up 10%. ... I'll be watching for the answers!!!
