Phillips Respironics Amara
I am in my sleep doctors office waiting room. On tbe display is a Phillips Respironics Amara. Looks very similar to my Quattro FX in all aspects except for the gell padding. Anyone have any experience/opinions on tbis mask? My DME seems to like it and tried to get me to switch when I got the new ASV machine. I kike my quattro but I do have three of them with two new in box. I am due a mask before end of year from my insurance. Do I give it a try or get quattro number four?

Do a quick search on this forum for "amara" and you should be deluged with opinions. I don't remember very many people saying they like it, between the leaks and the nose pain. I've had three, the last one with the gel seal and couldn't wear any of them more than a night or two-the nose damage was severe. I don't know why I kept trying, I guess I just wanted to like it because of it's minimalist nature and it's simplicity. But like many I just couldn't make it work.
If you're looking for something lightweight and simple, I strongly suggest you consider the Quattro Air.

Quattro Air is the mask I am currently using. Have two new ones in box to back up the one I am using. I had bad luck with two previous gel masks but like you they seem like should work. Guess when I go to my DME tomorrow I will order another Quattro Air for my end of year supply order. Doctor prescribed me a wedge to elevate me during the night. Since sleep significantly better in my recliner he wants to elevate me some in bed too rather than adjust my pressure. Last 30 days on ASV has my AHI down to 13. Untreated it is 90+, cpap 50 to 70 and bipap 30 to 50. Although my my overall is 13 my centrals are less than 5 and my obstructives average about 5. Hypopneas are what throwing my numbers high now. I am still snoring like a train with ipap of 15 average pressure 90% of time. He is afraid bumping the pressure will just feed my centrals. So another Quattro it will be unless someone can sell me on trying another gel mask.

I tried thos mask and could not control the leaks. If you want something new and better give the F&P Simplus a try. Works great for me.hueyville wrote:I am in my sleep doctors office waiting room. I really like the Amara Gel. I had a problem with pressure sores on the nose from the plain Amara, but the new gel cushion solved it. I don't get leaks with the mask, the vent is very quiet, and it allows me to use the optimized mask resistance setting on the machine because its a PR brand mask. Compared to the old Quattro, it's also much less bulky, and is far simpler to clean. Plus the headgear is very nice, and the replacement parts are cheaper than the Quattro line of products. I would definitely recommend the Amara Gel.hueyville wrote:I am in my sleep doctors office waiting room. On tbe display is a Phillips Respironics Amara.
