Help Needed: Fisher & Paykel SleepStyle 600

Post by letchworth » Wed Dec 11, 2013 7:48 am

Friend of mine gave me a Fisher & Paykel SleepStyle 600 that she only used for a very brief time- [I tried to talk her into staying with it, without success.] Machine has less than 30 days on it, purchased perhaps 2 years ago. Came with two humidifier chambers, heated hose, and a mask.
I researched on cpap.com, and discover that it is a discontinued model [DME strikes again, I figure].
My question: Does any one have experience with this model --- and, how do I set it for my pressure . My old machine [Respironics REMstar Pro-Mseries] no longer self-starts after brief power outage, I use a power out alarm to wake myself to reset power supply.
I do have Medicare and BC/BS supplemental [just retired]- so replacing a 5-year old machine is probably no problem-- but hate to throw away a "brand-new" machine--- or could relegate it to travel-only [upon your recommendation].
I appreciate you reading this post and would appreciate any feedback.

See if this gets you what you need to figure out how to use the machine.

Thank you so much for the manual--- definitely a keeper.
In reading the section on setting pressure I read the following:
1.3 EQUIPMENT REQUIRED
- The patient’s tube and mask.
- A pressure measuring device with a minimum range of 0 to 20cmH
- A length of pressure tubing.
- “T” adaptor if the mask does not have a pressure port.
How does a user get access to such a pressure measuring device? If I remember correctly [no guarantees- ha ha] wasn't the pressure setting just a digital setting on the Respironics-- once you got under the hood?

I didn't read that part when I found the manual. I just scrolled down to the bottom page and I assumed it was "under the hood" setting like you are talking about. I didn't think that this machine was old enough to need a manometer to set the pressure. If it does it was likely purchased much longer ago than 2 years or was sitting on a DMEs shelf for a long, long time...shame on them if they did that.

I have no clue how to set a machine with a manometer if that is what is needed.
Manometers can be bought (cpap.com has a couple) or made from stuff around the house but I don't understand how the mask fits into the equation.
Most DMEs will have manometers to check the pressure....maybe there is a nice DME close to you that would set the machine for you since you know what pressure you need???

Thanks Pugsy;
Where I recently moved from, the DME respiratory therapist would gladly have helped-- but currently looking for friendly, honest DME in Akron/Canton area of Ohio.
I know she purchased it in last two years--- [3 at tops]-- so assume it is shady DME.
I will keep looking for friendly/honest/helpful DME in my area-- I need to do that anyway, just as part of the moving process.
Thanks for your help

Reading through to manual, page A3 gives instructions for setting pressure. This appears to be a CPAP only machine but pressure setting seems pretty straightforward.

Perhaps the part you read has to do with checking pressure accuracy for which an external manometer would be required.

Good luck.

If you got it from a friend who got it 2 years ago...what has the DME have to do with it?
I believe the Sleepstyle 600 was current 1-2 years ago.

I have an old 604 that I only use when There is a power outage ----- easy set up to battery, no special cord required.

Here it is:
Press right pointing arrow and left pointing arrow together for 3 second to step to "options'. once in, go to pressure and press either up or down, whichever you need. THEN PRESS right pointing arrow to confirm change.

Page A-6 in my F&P book for all 600 cpap series. My machine is over 10 years old, I bought it new.

Cheers

My fault folks,....sorry.

Duplicate post by a newbie in this thread caused the zombie thread to be resurrected and I approved it elsewhere and didn't here because it was a duplicate and didn't realize that the thread would still be brought back to life. Normally when I do that the thread/topic fades back into the archives.

I just didn't catch it. It was a new account comment about obtaining that old Optimizer software which was allowed in another thread and best to be addressed there than in this thread which was not about the software anyway.
