Wisp mistake?

Post by darco » Wed Dec 11, 2013 7:16 am

Well I had to grab a new mask from my DME (Apria) so I wanted to check out the Nano but they didnt have any in stock. Even tho they had a large box to choose from (used) they steered me to their top 3, Wisp, the Pilaro and the SleepWeaver. I did read about the Wisp in this forum and other places so I was crossing my fingers that this could be the mask for me!
I have used the Zest Nasal mask in the past and after a week of use, it left an actual scab underneath my nose...but the leaks were low. Well the Wisp is in the same boat and I should have known better. Even tho I slept fairly well last nite, leaks were fine, I can already see a mark under my nose....I guess Ill try it for a week and see how it goes. Its frustrating that you cant try it and return if not suited for you. Ill probably have to rule out the Nano too...
Also I have been experimenting with the heated hose and the Wisp hose does not fit and I could not pull off the adapter off the end of hose w/o damaging it. I dont get this since Respironics makes the heated hose and the Wisp hose?

When a short hose doesn't fit into the long hose..it's almost always caused by something being left in the end of the long hose from a different mask.
The Wisp short hose most definitely will indeed fit in the System One heated hose ....I use the heated hose and I had a one night (well really 90 minutes) trial with the Wisp. It fits just fine.
So look at the long hose at the mask end...is something stuck in it from your past mask?

I didn't have good luck with the Wisp but I had great success with the Nano but my issues with the Wisp weren't around the nostrils.

Huge difference for me between the Wisp and the Nano. I couldn't keep the Wisp on my face for five minutes... felt like I was wearing a FFM. The Nano, on the other hand, is such a great mask (for me, anyway)... very comfortable and minimal problems with leaks. I hope you'll get a chance to try it out.

Ok so here is a pic of the tubing in question.....the Wisp tubing has some sort of adapter that wont come off..I tried using channel lock pliers but I may just break it off.
The tube does insert into heating tubing but it too loose and falls out...I dont want to ruin the new Wisp tube, I could just duct tape it I suppose....

The clear thing in the end of the heated hose...shouldn't be in there. That's an adapter from some other mask that has gotten stuck in the long hose.
If you remove it the Wisp will fit.
See what mine looks like...nothing in that end.

It fooled me too, a couple times.
Quick-connect/swivel off another mask.

For your Wisp try a Padacheek mask cover. Makes all the difference in the world with that system. No sores, fewer leaks. Easy to put on and take off... lasts about a year.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
