AHI SCORE
Hi, and thanx for this brilliant site - very informative. I've been on my cpap machine for about 2 weeks now - hate it, but forgot how much energy i used to have before i got apneoa! anyway, looking at what my machine says, i get around 13 on the AHI every night, but between 0 and 2 episodes of periodic breathing. can anyone tell me what this means please? many thanks
Re: AHI SCORE
Welcome to the forum.
If you are seeing PB on the machine's LCD display then it sounds like you have a Respironics PR System One machine of some sort.
Take a look at the SleepyHead tutorial thread
understanding your data viewtopic/t88983/Pugsys-PointersSleepyH ... nding.html
It explains the data that your machine collects.
It also explains the software choices you have so that you can see more information that your machine collects.
The PB reported on the LCD screen is percent of time spent in Periodic Breathing and PB is a waxing and waning of the air flow that meets certain criteria. It may or may not point to anything significant but with your AHI showing double digits...we wonder about it because the AHI we like to see below 5.0. PB with a high Clear Airway event count (centrals) could mean something else is going on.
Your machine will tell you the CA count and average per hour but you need to use the software to see it.
So get SleepyHead and then let's see what is going on. It may be nothing especially if you are having some awake times during the night.
All of this is explained in the thread above along with links to get the software, how to install and use it.
When you have time please register here at the forum and add your equipment to your profile like I have added mine. It helps us help you better and faster when we can see at a glance exactly what equipment you are using.

Hi mandysnore,
Welcome to the forum.
The forum will be of added value to you if you register and list your equipmnt.
Please also list your treatment pressures.
The AHI number of 13 indicates that you had a combination of apnea events totalling 13 times each hour.
This level is in the medium range of severity and usually can be brought down to 5 or below by titrating your pressure.
It is important to know the composition of this number.
# obstructive events
# central events
# hypopnea events
If you list your equipment, members of this forum can assist you in getting appropriate software so you can more closely follow the results of your treatment.
