Worried about my Testosterone (24 year old male)

Post by Ruinednose » Sun Dec 08, 2013 6:22 pm

I have lot testosterone and im 24 years old.
MY doc decided to have me do some blood work after the sleep study and i did
I got everything looking good other then testosterone which is at 269 which is considered low for someone my age.

Quite honestly within the last half year i have been experiencing low number of erections and just general tireness ect.
He said to try bipap for a while and if that doesn't fix my Testosterone to jumo on some testosterone therapy.

I have been almost a month on my bipap and while i do feel some improvement im still not 100%

Should i go ahead and push for TRT (testosteone replacement therapy)?

In the future, when we are dealing with an epidemic of prostate cancer we are going to see this Low T the drug companies are pushing for the folly it is.

There is a reason we no longer use hormone replacement in women.

In one month you have barely adapted to wearing the mask. It can take several months to a year for your body to rebuild.

You probably would benefit from giving it a bit more time (perhaps another month). Have there been other changes in your life? Has your fitness level or weight changed? Have you had additional stress at work or at home? All of those can impact your energy and libido.

I wouldn't do TRT unless as last resort. Talk to your doctor or urologist about drugs for ED (Levitra, Viagra) if sexual performance is important to you.

Know that low T and ED can have sleep apnea and other conditions (inflammation in the body, obesity - especially belly fat, etc) as aggravating factors. Is weight a factor? You can get a blood test for inflammation indicators like CRP, and uric acid if high can be an inflammatory flag.

Sometimes a naturopath doctor can be especially helpful in these areas.

TRT will raise your T levels but is not guaranteed to improve your erections, and once you start TRT your body shuts down its own T production.

I would wait several months while you get good bipap therapy and get T levels rechecked. In the meantime the ED drug could help if your doctor agrees.

Your sleep apnea was almost certainly affecting you for more than a month before you started your treatment. Take the improvement you have seen as a positive sign, and continue with your bipap. Relax about what is working/not working, and you will find the lack of stress makes a HUGE difference. Even at my age I can say the same thing!

Get the opinions of TWO other doctors and then think about what to do.

I am 44 almost 45 and have been formally diagnosed with extremely low T since my early thirties. I had the symptoms of extreme low T since my very late twenties, after a hernia surgery where my testicles were cut on by a surgeon.

Ive been on all the TRTs and IMO, they all suck. All by the injections are expensive as hell and a PITA. I stopped injectable testosterone cypionate back in July because of the blood side effects it was causing (elevating certain CBC count stuff) and also it was increasing my APAP pressures somewhat. I did notice some benefits to the stuff mood wise and might consider going back on the injectable stuff, the transdermals like Androgel and Testim you can have I think they are a total waste of time, money and are basically weak drugs.

I also want to say that when I was 24, low testosterone was absolute farthest thing from my mind at that time. Although I did know other guys my age at that time who seemed obsessed with being muscular, taking OTC legal supplements like protein powders and such. I was into working out at that age but did not have "bigorexia" or whatever it is called.

Is your low T formally diagnosed as the primary or the secondary form of low T? If the primary form of low T, that means CPAP wont help your T levels. The problem is in your testicles or your genes. If its secondary low T, there are a whole bunch of things that can cause that, from obesity, to sleep apnea, to depression, to many types of prescription medications, to severe stress and anxiety, alcoholism and recreational drug use. There are a lot of causes of secondary low T.

You need to identify which form of low testosterone you have. If it is secondary, are you significantly overweight? Are you on any prescription medications? Do you drink a lot of booze? Have you ever been diagnosed with clinical depression? Besides the sleep apnea? Are you 100% BIPAP compliant? If so, do you use a nasal mask or a full face mask?

Your question is difficult for a bunch of strangers on some board to ask. Nobody here is an MD.

Eric

Tune your CPAP therapy

Work with a dietitian (fat is an enemy of testosterone)

Work with a personal trainer (exercise is known to increase testosterone levels)

You might also do well to look into the Tao.

Get married, you will only need a erection every few months, so more testosterone will stay inside. Jim

Warning: Make sure if the dog is male, that it doesn't have too high a level of "T"! Jim

Had a reaction to a medication 15 years ago that screwed up my hormones. Testosterone went to Zero. Yes Zero. Lived like that 7 years while raising a family. Did a lot of research over the years on account doctors are so busy and have little time to actually try and figure out what's wrong. You'll need to be patient with things. Depression is a big factor. My cholesterol is not that great and I'm not overweight. A side affect of T. I eat as good as possible and now after 2 months of cpap feel amazing! It's a lifesaver and lifechanger. Love wearing my mask because it means the next day I'll feel great. Avoid T pills as they can affect the liver. Shots tend to spike then fall. A good compounding pharmacy is what I use and rub some cream daily. A doctor is necessary to check your levels every 3 months. Sort of a catch 22. Can't exercise until you feel good enough from cpap. Once you can, then the fitness might improve T levels. The only control you have with ANY OF THIS, is what you put into your body. Previous posts of mine have indicated, I'm a big fan on REAL NUTRITION. No more sodas, no more alcohol, no more cookies, junk food, processed foods, fast food, packaged foods, fake foods, rarely eat out and mostly prepare my own meals. Raw and cooked vegetables, juicing, natural smoothies, fruit, quinoa, brown rice etc. Limit sugar and white flour. This a staple for most people if all you eat are hamburgers and pasta. You can speed up the recovery for your body by focusing on REAL NUTRITION other than dieting. Have quit my one small cup of decaf 6 weeks ago. All my stomach trouble ended. No ulcers or reflux. My food lifestyle isn't for everyone. Most probably couldn't handle it. I choose life. The alternative is a life on pills and dependency on pills for pills. The side effects of some meds require other meds to counter them etc. Pills are generally toxic to the body. The body can heal itself given enough nutrition and commitment wanting to get better. It takes willpower and strength. It will cost twice as much to get NUTRITION and twice as much effort because the world we live in is setup for convenience and financial gain. No more McDonalds, steamed veggies and green juice daily, get some exercise when the cpap kicks in and your body will get better. See a doctor to get some testosterone treatment going and stay committed to your own health goals. Be patient. Things will get better. *Want to add, get moving. Blood flow makes everything work!

24 years old male

5,7 i weight 168 lbs (proabbly should be at 145-150 for my frame) i do have some belly fat but its not extreme
I am active in cardio tradmill and eliptical about 3 times a week. i eat bad greasy foods most of the time.

I used to have OSA i no longer have OSA due to sleep study, now im back on bipap cause of supposed UARS.
I feel better, but stil tired and rather "weird" my "sleep maintanence insomnia" has gotten better a lot better.

But im still slightly tired and i get the tendency to stare off into space for like 20 seconds multiple times a day. SO much its kinda of annoying.

What you think?
