Added room humidifier

Post by VikingGnome » Wed Dec 04, 2013 7:02 am

It's winter now and the central heat pump really reduces the humidity in my house. It was as low as 35% even when pouring rain outside. My H5i just wasn't doing the job. I was waking up in the morning with very dry nose with very hard "boogers". So I bought a cheap room cool mist humidifier for $29 at TARGET. It's a HOLMES brand shaped like a tea kettle. Nothing fancy but does have knob adjustment for the amount of mist and you can aim the mist whatever direction you want. It has no filter or demineralizer so I put distilled water in it. Put it on top of an upside down laundry basket with lots of holes for ventilation over my S9 VPAP. What a difference this morning. The humidity in my bedroom was 55% and my nose feels wonderful. No dryness. No hard boogers.

So if winter dryness is complicating your xPAP treatment, try adding a simple room humidifier. It can make a world of different.

Your machine has one built in. Unless you are running out of water in it during the night, I dont see where a room one would help.

Yes, I have a H5i which did fine during the summer. I occasionally run out of water and have to refill during the night. But the extra humidity in the room really does help. And the extra humidity is better for your skin and hair.

I run a humidifier in the bedroom also, not so much for me but it does help but mainly for my wife so she doesn't wake up with nose problems from dry air.

Keep an eye out for mold. High humidity will cause mold. Check behind your headboard and dressers.
