First Night Experience

Post by Jaywolf » Wed Dec 04, 2013 6:24 am

Getting the machine hooked up properly and deciding which of the three sizes of mask took more time than I thought it would. I went between feeling like I couldn't breathe to feeling relief. I also had to adjust the temperature of the air to be warmer than I thought and I tossed and turned for quite some time. Even with the EPR it felt like hard work to breathe against the air flow, so that made going to sleep a bit more difficult. I have read a lot of posts that say people slept right through the night and I was disappointed that I didn't. I still got up to go to the bathroom twice.

I woke 15 minutes earlier than the alarm and could not go back to sleep. I was yawning a lot. The biggest thing I noticed was not having the clogged up nose and throat and my lungs are clear.. wow. My skin looked better and I wasn't swollen up. According to the information I slept well for 6.3 hours. And right now I want to go back to bed LOL. I don't have a headache. I don't feel as alert as I expected and would have liked but I guess it takes some weeks?

Hi, your clogged nose may be due to the humidity setting or temperature being too high - you might try lowering it for a couple of nights, but at least you slept through more or less, which is great considering how many don't!

I shouldn't read notes until I've had coffee!

It appears to me that you are doing quite well. It may take MONTHS to really notice a difference. Some folks rarely see immediate changes and the changes can be subtle and take years. We are all different and our bodies will respond different. Some folks see immediate changes. Keep up the good work... Onward thru the fog!!...

Congratulations, on your first night. It does take some time to adjust, and finding the right mask is a tough. Sounds like you are on the correct road to recovery.
Depending on how long your OSA was going on untreated, you may owe a sleep debt that you have to pay before you can feel completely "normal".
I have been on therapy for 7 months now, and can finally make it through the day without taking a nap or feeling overly tired.
I was diagnosed severe, and it was going on for long time.

Keep at it. It will get better.

Congratulations.
You did better than I did my first few nights. 4 hours of highly fragmented sleep was the best I could do for a few nights.
I kept waking up feeling the mask on my face and wondering if it was still there and was the machine on.

It will get better and easier.
