Machine coming NEXT WEEK!

Post by Starpilot » Wed Nov 27, 2013 1:58 pm

I am so excited! I just got a call today and I am picking up my machine next week, a day before my titration. And the doctor requested the Resmed s9 (the good one with the full data) which was the machine I was going to request anyway. And my insurance is paying for all of it.

SO SO EXCITED!!! Ready to start sleeping!

Just a reminder: full data is on the Elite and Autoset; anything that says "Escape" does NOT.
Look for yourself; it's the only way to be sure.
And welcome to the forum.

And learn how to check the "Run" Hours - to make sure it is NOT a used machine.

Also find out what the latest internal software version is.
Make sure you get a machine with that version.

ChunkyFrog: I asked them about that, to make sure it does the full data thing and she said it does. "It has a card slot and everything" she said. The Escape models don't have a card slot do they?

How likely is it that I would get a used machine from the hospital? And how hard is it to update the software on these things?

The card slot means nothing...all the Escape models have a card slot and a SD card but the problem is they only gather hours of use..for compliance requirements.

The Escape Auto...barely better...give the overall AHI...no event category breakdown, no leak, nothing else that is really useful.

You need them to plug in the machine and show you the run hours.
If they "can't", they are hiding something!

I don't think that the firmware on one of these machines is user upgradeable. So it is in your interest to make sure that you get the latest machine with the latest firmware. You can verify the firmware version, it is available via the LCD display in the menus there...I can't help you with that, though, since my cpap is almost 2 years old now. Also, I"d be surprised if each model of the cpap didn't have it's own version of firmware. They could be using one master version with conditional compiles in it, but I'd be surprised if that were the case.

It is VERY highly likely that anyone who thinks they can get away with it WOULD try to foist a USED machine on you. It happens every day.
Starpilot wrote:And how hard is it to update the software on these things?
The internal software on the S9 Series of machines CAN be upgraded - but I have never heard of anyone being successful in having that done.

That is because doing so is very costly.
Your DME would have to ship it directly to ResMed where ResMed will just swap out the entire internal board. They either can not or just will not just update the internal software.
You would have to pay for the DME shipping (both ways) & ResMed's charge for swapping out the entire board.
I was never given the actual cost to do that, but my DME said it was cheaper for them to just give me another machine with the updated software already in it.
