What setting?
What setting?
I have a CPAP machine that was set at the lowest setting of 6. Did not get refreshing sleep. I have been manually upping the pressure myself. Should I up it until I wake up feeling well rested? What is a good setting? The setting they gave from the sleep study was obviously too low. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

Re: What setting?
Could you please fill us in with a bit more information?
What pressure was given from the sleep study?
What kind of machine do you have? Efficacy data would be a huge help.
Many of us do not get refreshing sleep right away--got to get used to the machine first.

Re: What setting?
Let's start with figuring out your equipment so that hopefully you have a machine that will offer some insight (gather data) into why you aren't feeling as well as you expected.
So what machine brand and model are you using?
Tell us and we can then hopefully point you to software so we can see what is going on.
Otherwise..in answer to your question...there is no magic number that is a "good pressure setting" and sometimes despite optimal pressure settings and software reports there are any number of reasons why we don't feel as good as we expect.
We don't advise simply increasing the pressure willy nilly without evaluating the overall therapy itself.
Hours of sleep???
Are those hours fragmented for any reason....if so why?
Take any meds...RX or OTC? If so...what, dose, and when?
Any mask issues?.....discomfort, leaks, etc.
Any other health issues?
Bed comfort?
Pain?
and so on and so on.

Re: What setting?
I have a REMstar Auto A-Flex machine.
Re: What setting?
The Remstar part of the name is useless....Respironics has used it on every machine they have ever made.molar3 wrote:I have a REMstar Auto A-Flex machine.
Turn the machine over (remove water tank first) and look on the bottom of the machine for a 3 digit number ...probably will have DS or REF in front of it...on the same sticker is an 8 digit number which is code for year/month/day of manufacture.
It will likely be either 550 or 560...and if a brand new machine probably 560.
With either model you have software choices to enable you to see the data that the machine gathers.
Check out the links in my signature line. Sleepyhead will work great with either machine.
Check out the Sleepyhead tutorial link....you will see examples of what is available.
If it is a 550 machine...this would be your choices for equipment in the drop down menu
PR System One Auto CPAP with AFlex...for machine choice
PR System Heated humidifier ....for humidifier choice (your current choice was discontinued back in 2007 so I doubt you have that machine and humdiifier)
If it is a 560 machine...this would be your choices
PR System One 60 Series Auto CPAP ..machine
PR SYstem One 60 Series Heated tube humidifier with heated tube (even if you don't have the optional heated tube/hose)
The heated hose has a black end on the end that connects to the humidifier...if both ends of your hose are white/gray...you don't have a heated hose...but 60 series machines often come without the heated hose...it's an upgrade option available.
Go here an request a copy of the provider/clinical manual for your machine (once you figure out exactly what you have)
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
if you don't already have it but you may have it already since you know how to change the pressures.
Before changing pressures...let's look at some detailed nightly reports to see what is going on in terms of therapy.
That way we can see what pressures you are using and what the machine wants to go to.
How to post images of reports explained here with examples.
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=81072&p=737779#p737779
Turn off the AHI graph in SleepyHead..not needed...to turn it off just go to Preferences and then graph tab and remove check mark.
All we need to see from SleepyHead
The stuff on the left showing AHI and event category breakdown and graphs on the right...
Events graph
Flow rate graph
Pressure graph
Leak graph
Those other graphs are not needed at this time. You can resize the graphs to get 4 graphs on one screen shot to make it easier.
Examples in the "how to post images of reports" thread above.

Can anyone help me and give me advice?
Re: What setting?
Anyone tell you that you are still snoring?
Change it over to APAP mode...in cpap mode your flow limitation reporting is turned off..with all those snores I would be wondering about flow limitations. You can set minimum and maximum pressure to equal the same number..so works like cpap mode but then you get flow limitation flags if there are any.
Heck try 7 min and 8 max...see if the snores reduce.

Thanks for the advice. Will do and after a couple of days I will repost the results and see what you think.

Can anyone give advice based on my new results?
Re: What setting?
You don't need to do a thing. With AHI of 0.66 your very good..molar3 wrote:Can anyone give advice based on my new results?
