broken on/off button on my CPAP

Post by DVG_98dc » Sun Nov 24, 2013 8:05 am

The on/off button on my machine (at the top there) has snapped off; well, actually appears the stem that holds the button cracked; I can still turn it on/off by pressing what's left there (a nub).

Will I foul up any of the delicate configurations of the unit by opening it? At least opening it enough to get to the support part that hods the button?

(I used to repair electronics and other small circuit gadgets)

This ever happen to anyone else?

Thanks!

No one here knows what machine you have, if you do not talk about it for us. Then maybe someone can answer.

DUH ! aw man .. can't believe I didn't mention that .. sorry 'bout that ..

anyhow, it's a Philips Respironics REMstar Auto A-Flex (system One)

well, that's all the info off the top of it.

Actually, what I see is that the stem It's metal) is intact, but the button that "fits" on it is a cheap plastic "slide-on" type component ... similar to, say, like a radio dial. And it's cracked ...

Well either leak a tiny amt of superglue in there or find some Silly Putty to make a new knob with and it'll harden over time being out in the air.

We had that happen to a TV long ago.
Clamped a small pair of Vice-Grips to the shaft.
Used it like that until the TV died.
Kept the Vice-Grips.

Either contact your local DME for a replacement knob or drop in to Radio Shack or an auto parts store and find a replacment part that will fit.

Super glue may render your unit unrepairable if it permanently welds the knob to the shaft so CPAP techs can't get it apart to replace the fan motor for example.

Pitch that as a Reality Show to some producer.

Thanks for all the ideas; yeah, I'm also hesitant to crazy glue or epoxy the thing on ... ... I'll snoop around for a suitable button that will attach; gee, probably just try to manufacturer out since the button would need to comply in a lot of dimensions (thickness, outer diameter; depth; etc., etc.).

I just hope I will not need to ship the thing off for a while or whatever ...
