Humidifier has stopped working

Post by Tesseract » Fri Nov 22, 2013 4:09 pm

Since it started turning cold the past couple weeks here in Michigan, it seems my humidifier has stopped working. I wake up in the night with a dry nose and mouth. In the morning barely any water has been used up in the tank. I have the unit humidifier set on 5 which is the max setting. I have a humidifier in the room and keep the humidity about 40%. Temperate ranges from 68 to 70 degrees F. Anybody have any suggestions on what to do next? I made an appointment with the equipment department on Monday but maybe there is a setting I could change on my cpap unit to get the humidifier working again. Thanks for the help!

Try going into the clinical setup menu and change the mode of operation to "Classic Mode".
The default mode is the "new system one humidification" mode...it uses less heat and less water because it uses a humidity sensor in the machine and likely it doesn't think you need more moisture but you want more.

Classic mode is the way we did the humidifiers for years before all this fancy stuff...heat only. Uses more water and chance of rain out increases but rain out can be dealt with a lot easier than dry nose or cold nose can be dealt with.
When I was using the "new mode" even at a setting of 5 my nose got so cold it hurt (I like a cold bedroom).

You should have the option of changing to Classic mode in the menu...only the very first PR S1 machines in early 2010 didn't have that option. It was added to later models.

I would suggest a setting of 3 in Classic mode to start with....see how it goes...maybe 4 but no more than that to start with.
If no water is being used at 3 or 4...something is wrong with the humidifier.

Thanks! I'll give that a try tonight.
