Waking up after 3 hours
Waking up after 3 hours
I have for many years due to my Apena and just started using my cpap two days ago I am my breathing better but not feeling refreshed as I was told I would. I sleep solid for three hours and wake up fully awake. Can some one please share their experience with this?

Re: Waking up after 3 hours
It is quite common to start out slowly, a few hours at first, adding more each night.
At 3 hours a night, you are doing pretty well for a beginner.
Most people acclimate in a few days, some in a few weeks.
Not everyone feels better right away; but your internal organs and brain
are just beginning to heal and you will feel better in time.

Please add your equipment to your profile as I have added mine so that we can offer more specific ideas based on what equipment you are using.

What are you doing after you wake up after those 3 hours? Going back to sleep with the mask or without?
2 days is too soon to expect much even if you slept solidly for 6 hours or more with optimal therapy. It just doesn't work that way for most people.
A few lucky people see that elusive overnight miracle but most people it takes some time even if therapy is optimal and there are no mask or leak issues.

Re: Waking up after 3 hours
I am going back to sleep with the mask on. I feel like I am breathing better all day but I could sleep more. I just do not feel rested yet. And like you say its only been a few days.
Re: Waking up after 3 hours
What machine are you using? Brand and model?
Hopefully it has full data capabilities so that you can use the software to see if anything might be going on during that time period where you wake up that might need some work.
3 hours into sleep would likely put someone in REM stage sleep...maybe there's something going on during that time frame.
Maybe a little cluster of events waking you up.
Maybe it just is going to take time for the brain to be okay with having the mask plastered on your face.
It's common for the brain to want to wake you up and say "hey, dude...did you know you have an alien stuck to your face?"
In time the brain comes to realize that the mask is a friend and it won't wake you up so much.
It never hurts to make sure that there's nothing else going on though while the brain is getting used to the mask being stuck on your face and that's why we suggest that people have and use full data machines so they can see if anything else is maybe a factor.
Fragmented sleep is simply going to mess with how we feel each day...so does hours of sleep.
We recently have acquired a new little dog. She doesn't know that I need 7 plus hours of sleep to feel my best. 6 hours and a wake up for her to go pee is really wearing me down.
There's so much more to this therapy than just slapping the mask on and feeling the miracle the very next day. If it were that easy we wouldn't have a need for this forum.

Re: Waking up after 3 hours
I am on day 6 with my CPAP and struggled with the nasal mask and full mouth/nasal mask for the first couple of nights, but that no longer an issue. I have always went to bed early (9-9:30pm) and would wake up at 6-7am and would drag all day. Now with the machine, I still go to bed at the same time, however, after 4 hours of what I believe to be the greatest sleep I have had in years, I wake up at 1-2am fully awake and feel rested. But I know I need more than 4 hours of sleep and try to do so. Does anyone know if this will correct itself, or if 4 hours of sleep is what I can expect from here on out?
Re: Waking up after 3 hours
It's common to experience what you are experiencing and with time your hours of sleep should lengthen. I think it took me about 3 months to work up to 5 hours of sleep.New 2 CPAP wrote: after 4 hours of what I believe to be the greatest sleep I have had in years, I wake up at 1-2am fully awake and feel rested. Just keep going back to bed and try to get back to sleep without stressing out too much as the stress can make things worse.
If it persists...hopefully you have a full data machine where you can evaluate what is going on during the night that might cause the wake up...
so if you will register here at the forum or at least tell us what equipment you are using we can tell you if your machine gathers that data or not.
Software for the major machines is easy to get.
