Two CPAP mishaps later - finally home.
I got out to California and Las Vegas without a hitch. I flew back to Tennessee, then drove to Chattanooga and stayed a month without a hitch. I drove back to Murfland after a month then two days later flew back out to So. California for another month - all without cpap blink. I flew back to Tennessee, then flew out to Las Vegas in three days - and forgot my short hose. I phoned my hubby from Las Vegas and told him I forgot my short hose - I was to fly down to Orange County again in two days and meet him there - could he please bring my short hose. We spent twenty minutes on the phone making sure he understood what the short hose was and how to remove it from the long hose. He brought the hose. . .but disconnected the connector piece from the long hose instead of taking it out like I described to hm. (Words. . .should have used pictures!!) - so after two days of sleeping incredibly poorly I about blew a fuse. (Tired and cranky and all that.) We called the front desk at the hotel and asked them to bring a roll of duct tape (duct tape fixes EVERYTHING) - AND rolled around the end of my short hose so that it fit into my long hose, then put a few more layers on the outside connecting the long hose to the short hose. I slept very well with for the remainder of this last out of state trip.
I don't know what to do if I forget the short hose over the weekend again - all the supply houses were closed. Any suggestions?
When I got home from California, I turned around and headed back down to Chattanooga for three days to care for my grandson. . .and you better believe I HAD my short hose and the connector pieces. . .and the long hose. . .and the mask, and an extra nasal pillow.
I'm home now. . .finally. Lessons learned.

Your husband and mine must be related. I am glad to see you back.

I am afraid so. Near deaf in one ear and won't listen out of the other and thinks duct tape will fix everything. It is just a good thing he is sweet and adorable.quietmorning wrote:**laughing** Gah!! Spares are a good thing...you could keep a traveling bag ready that has spare parts (duplicates) in it like a short hose, and whatever other parts you think that you might forget. Then just be sure to remember your bag of spare parts, throw it in your carry-on or whatever. You know what I mean...if there's something that you think that you might forget, have two of them, one for home and one for traveling. And you'll remember it, since you set aside specifically for traveling...keep it in your suitcase if you have to, to remind yourself to take it. Or if the short hose is the only thing that you forget, just keep a spare one in your suitcase so it's there for sure when you travel.
Just a thought.
Just a thought.

Awesome, Roger, thank you. I do keep a spare machine with mask and hoses - but with this, I had to switch the hose and masks out several times because I had to come home in a hurry then leave in a hurry. I'll put a short hose and extra nasal pillow in my carry on to keep is a just in case back up - just in the last few months happen again. LOL. . .right with my computer mouse that I forgot on the last go round.RogerSC wrote:Spares are a good thing...you could keep a traveling bag ready that has spare parts (duplicates) in it like a short hose, and whatever other parts you think that you might forget. Thanks again!

What about a check list that you keep in your CPAP travel kit? Run through the checklist before you leave on each trip, to make sure you have what you need.

Check. I'll make a list and stash it with my carry on - with words over the top DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT:Foggy1 wrote:What about a check list that you keep in your CPAP travel kit? Run through the checklist before you leave on each trip, to make sure you have what you need.

It's kinda expensive, but since I do a ton of international travel for work, I have a second CPAP with everything, -mask, hoses, connectors, filters, extra cushion, extension cords, hose cozy, hose hangers, everything I can think of in a travel case. All I have to do is remember to take that case lol. It's always there and ready to go when I am. No fuss. Just grab and go.

Yes, I do this - but there were so many times flying back and forth and so many times I came home to change out gear because I didn't have time to wash what I already had in the case, I got discombobulated.islandboy5150 wrote:It's kinda expensive, but since I do a ton of international travel for work, I have a second CPAP with everything, -mask, hoses, connectors, filters, extra cushion, extension cords, hose cozy, hose hangers, everything I can think of in a travel case. I literally went through FOUR brand new masks during this period - heh. . .washed them all when I got back home for good. Sometimes things just go a little beyond what you're prepared for, me thinks.

I have about 4 ft of duct tape rolled into a flat square "packet" that stays in my CPAP bag. Never had to use any, but it helps me sleep better knowing it's there!
The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...
