Good evening everyone,
I have a few questions for all of you and hoping someone has an answer. I am 21 and have been diagnosed woth sleep apnea for 2 years now. I use to use a CPAP but had a UPPP done back in March and felt wonderful a month later and I haven't used my CPAP since. Over the past month I've noticed that I have been waking up exhausted and staying exhausted all threw the day now mattet how much coffee or energy drinks I have and waking up with headaches just about everymorning. I was wondering if anyone has had a UPPP and has had these issues return. I cant really go to my doctor because I am in the military and cant always have the CPAP so they could possibley discharge me so I was wondering what is all of yours opinion?

Re: CPAP and UPPP
I am in my forties and had the UPPP around 5 years ago. Uvula, soft palate trim, deviated septum repair. Life was good for about a year than all of my symptoms returned and I back to square one. A recent exam shows contricted airway below what they removed. I suspect my symptoms were better not from the surgery itself but the 40 pounds of weight loss during the painful recovery.

These forum pages have many, many stories like yours. The truth is that the UPPP surgery is only marginally successful and most of the people who have had it done still have to continue to use CPAP or BiPAP sooner or later. Sometimes their therapy pressures are less and sometimes they're higher. If you want to read some of the horror stories, go up to the Search line and put in "UPPP" and start reading.sleepy_guy_92 wrote:Good evening everyone,

I didn't have it done, so I can't speak to it from a personal standpoint, but I've been on the forum for nearly nine years and have read many of the stories.
Sounds like you're between a rock and a hard place. Good luck.

if you are military, you should consider oral appliance to treat your OSA.
