CPAP and Surgery - New Regulation - Carolinas Medical Center

Post by Guest » Mon May 22, 2006 12:08 pm

Here is an update and correction on a post I made on May 17. My friend, a fellow cpap patient, had laparoscopic surgery for removal of his gall bladder on May 15 at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, NC. The doctor told him it would be outpatient surgery.

However, on the day of the surgery the hospital staff informed the doctor that a new hospital rule went into effect just that day. The new rule requires all cpap patients to stay in the hospital overnight after surgery. My friend's wife went home to get his cpap machine which he used that night in the hospital.

It is great to hear than some more people in the medical profession are starting to look out for us!

By the way, my friend went out to a restaurant for dinner the next day and expects to return to work two weeks from the day of the surgery.
