Still need help
I thought I had a good night's sleep last night....only woke up twice and one was because my hubby forgot to turn off his alarm clock. Yet, today I am so tired.
These are last nights numbers:
AHI 4.62 (Hypopnea 2.24 (17 events) / Obstructive 0.66 (5 events) / Clear Airway 1.72)
RERA 0.79
Flow Limit 0.13
Pressure (95% - 9.2)
I don't know what other information will be useful. At my sleep/titration study my AHI was 34 so it has gone down significantly. Also says possible complex sleep apnea.

Re: Still need help
Research your blood pressure meds thoroughly. Often BP meds have some "fatigue" side effects.
Might be part of your tired issues...not saying all of the issue...just maybe part.
Also it just may take some time for your body to regroup and start feeling better.
My first OSA symptoms to go away were the nocturia and killer AM headaches.
The daytime energy level stuff came on later and more gradually.
I will share this. My sister (no OSA) was on BP meds and feeling horribly fatigued during the day. She researched her meds and found out daytime fatigue was a known side effect. She talked this over with her doctor and they switched meds and she said the difference was immediate.

Re: Still need help
I started feeling better after I changed the pressure settings as you suggested but last night I don't know what happened, and I noticed none of the AHIs where during the two times I woke up.
Besides firing the DME, I'm changing doctors since she didn't support me in getting the data capable machine. My study suggests download on week 4 (with a brick? Ha!) and week 8 and she's not up to date on reading the SD cards.

Re: Still need help
Sometimes we simply don't feel as good as the numbers say we should and sometimes we don't feel as bad as the numbers say we should.
Lots of things affect how we sleep (and thus the restorative powers of sleep) and they aren't all related to OSA or the machine or the AHI or any numbers.
About 4 months into my therapy I woke up and felt amazing...thought OMG finally got the miracle and I am home free. Back then I didn't download my data until the evening because I didn't want to "cloud" my perception of the day. Got a lot done that day and felt totally awesome. Downloaded my data and to my surprise I had an AHI of 10.2 go figure that one.
And I have had nights where the AHI was nearly 0.0 and felt like total crap the next day.
Sometimes there just isn't anything in the numbers on the reports that can help us figure out why some days are better or worse than others. All we can do is just keep on using the machine (like we have much of a choice) and doing the best we can.
If you are having awake events get flagged then you know the AHI is really probably lower.
One of the biggest factors in how we might feel the next day is fragmented sleep. When we wake up (even if we don't remember it) then the normal sleep cycles don't get a change to continue in the normal progression with normal % in each stage.
If you are remembering a handful of awake times then I bet you are having even more that you don't remember.
I don't know how much of an impact those arousals might have in your situation but they sure won't be helping things.
Give things time to settle in and when you read about someone having the "miracle" immediately you can turn pea green with envy, like I do.
It will get better but you are going to have to be patient. Most people don't have those miracles....most people have a very gradual improvement that they don't even realize is happening until they happen to have to sleep without the machine for a period of time.
Then they get a rude awakening as to just how bad they used to feel.
And remember...the machine can only fix stuff related to OSA. If we have other issues with sleep that are unrelated to OSA then the machine can't fix it.

Re: Still need help
It can't be the chocolate because then I would have to give up my nightly cup of hot chocolate now that cold weather is here.
Must be the cherries.
I don't feel so great today myself and haven't even looked at the report.
Yesterday evening I had the day from hell.
Tried to fix my kitchen faucet....tried being the operative word...now I get to buy a new faucet.
Just told hubby that on the top of his honey do list is organize the tools we have. I couldn't find a damn thing I needed and ended up messing up some threads on something that the threads shouldn't be messed up...he is OTR truck driver so wasn't home for me to scream at him "where is the blankety blank crescent wrench"...
Travel trailer that we have my brother in has a stopped up drain...so had to go out to the store at 10 PM last night for draino and one of those crappy little snakes that come with it...that little snake broke before I even got to stick it down the drain.
I was already worn out from rebuilding some steps to the trailer and the kitchen faucet fiasco..not a happy camper.
Got my going to bed time all out of whack.
I slept decently once I got to sleep but the stress in general has left me exhausted today and now I have to go get the new faucet and my back is killing me from building the stairs...again because my husband had them upside down...no wonder the steps were 10 inches high...geez..he wouldn't listen to me when I told him "something ain't right".
I have no idea as to the status of the drain right now but will go check right before I go to get the faucet just in case I need to get stuff to take the pipes under the drain off...Sigh.

Wow, you made me tired. I haven't gotten anywhere near that level of energy, I get home from work and just want to vegetate on the couch.

How long have you been on therapy? Maybe you have not paid your sleep debt yet. I know I initially felt better but no one where near what I feel today.
I had to pay off the sleep debt first before I could feel the way I feel today. Just a thought...

Today starts week 7. I had one day in week 4 where I felt so good, even took a friend shopping. But that was it. At least I'm not dozing off at stop lights. That's scary.Bill44133 wrote:How long have you been on therapy? Maybe you have not paid your sleep debt yet. I know I initially felt better but no one where near what I feel today.

Maybe I should switch and take my HBP meds in the morning instead of night. I know the HBP meds I take can cause insomnia (though they never did to me) but since I was waking up with headaches my Dr suggested I take them at night. The headaches were probably due to OSA so it's worth a try.Pugsy wrote:I will share this. My sister (no OSA) was on BP meds and feeling horribly fatigued during the day. Re: Still need help
When I first started cpap treatment, I went over my list of medications with my sleep doctor. He was also aware that I am a severe night owl, so I go to bed between 4 and 6am. We changed the timing of a few of my medications.flyingwithoutwings wrote:Maybe I should switch and take my HBP meds in the morning instead of night. Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
