Vent rate..yes, the air exiting through those little holes in the hose or mask somewhere. The Sleepweaver cloth masks don't have noticeable "holes" but instead I think the normal venting is done through the material itself and you won't likely feel it because it is dispersed over the entire area of the cloth.
At least that is the way it was with the first SleepWeaver masks...I haven't seen all models but what I have seen didn't have vent holes in the plastic like we see with other masks.

Just because you don't feel it doesn't mean it isn't happening through the cloth.

The machine shows all "leaks"...either from mask seal real leaks, vent holes/venting through the cloth, even mouth leaks.
A leak is a leak...some are to be expected as with the venting leak and we just accept those as normal leaks.
It's the excess leaks that sometimes creates the problems.

And yes, as long as you aren't awakened by leaks (and they stay well below 80 L/min for the bulk of the night) you are good to go.
I have slept through some massive leaks myself...well into large leak territory on a rare occasion but I didn't stay there but for maybe 10 minutes...so it didn't disrupt my sleep and the impact on 10 minutes of sleep out of 7 or 8 hours is going to be minimal in the overall picture...I don't worry about it.
If it happened often...yeah, I might worry but I don't worry about brief short lived large leaks if I sleep right through them.
Sometimes trying to fix 10 minutes of leaks with some extraordinary measures creates more of a sleep problem in general (like chin strap discomfort or whatever) than just letting the 10 minutes happen.

Alright then, I"m good to go. I understand this leak issue a whole lot better now. This was only my first night with the Sleepweaver Elan (it does have a small amount of vent holes) so we'll see how it goes.

Will have to check with DME to see which ones they have that I can try.
My DME (Crapria) is a nightmare. Our sponsor, http://www.cpap.cpm, offers return insurance (often for nothing) during a 30 day period, and I've never looked for a mask they didn't have. That's how I try all my masks (can you tell I haven't found the perfect one yet?). Also, you can call them on Saturday, get someone who knows what they're talking about, and don't have to wait on hold forever. The return insurance includes free return shipping. Just FYI.

Thanks Jeannh. Since I fired my DME & I haven't met my deductible for the year I did purchase the Elan on a 30-day return period (as you stated above). I'm hoping the Elan works for me. The Swift FX works well too but I sometimes feel like I want to give my nose a break.
