Hello all: I have been researching old threads for an answer to this question: Why would a doctor prescribe ASV instead of ASV Auto on the latest model Resmed S9 Adapt? This question was asked but I could not find an answer. My titration was done on an older model ASV (Blue and White machine). Could it be that they don't know about the newer feature on the Resmed machine or would it be for another reason?
Thank you for any help on this.

Re: ASV vs ASV Auto
The simplest answer is that they may not have new protocols to titrate you at that variable pressure. This is not unusual that the titration protocol for a sleep center does not keep up with technology.
Another answer is that they might want to keep it as simple as possible. Some people actually have increased problems with the variable EPAP pressure. If you can tolerate a single EPAP pressure and you do well with it, then it is easier for you and for them.
But you can always tinker with the EPAP pressures (set the Min and Max) as you become acclimated to the therapy. For the time being, I would suggest leaving it "as is" and work with your doctor if you need any changes. As you become acclimated to the therapy and the machine, then you might want to consider making changes. But that's usually over two or three months in the future. It really does take that long to adjust to the therapy.
Hope that helps.

Re: ASV vs ASV Auto
3 months ago my doctor, board certified in neurology AND sleep medicine, just prescribed an ASV machine with no further specifications - DME tried to stick me with an ASV machine that was discontinued SIX years ago. As far as the models and features of the machines go, I know far more about the machines than she and her residents do - In my opinion, it's a crime, but it is what it is - you've got to aware, informed and fight for the machine that is best for you. It was a hassle but eventually i got my Resmed Asv auto and it works GREAT!!!!!

I have a similar story....Just too long to go into here. Had I not been educated about machines I would have a used ASV machine today; instead I just received a brand new ASV yesterday! That is why I was curious about the AutoASV vs just ASV. I too, think it is criminal when they try to pass off a used machine as new!johnthomasmacdonald wrote:3 months ago my doctor, board certified in neurology AND sleep medicine, just prescribed an ASV machine with no further specifications - DME tried to stick me with an ASV machine that was discontinued SIX years ago. Re: ASV vs ASV Auto
My auto ASV machine should be here before end of week. No hassle from doc, DME or insurance. Just the four nights in the sleep lab cost more than the machine. I do pay well for insurance. Consider they are spending an averave of 100k per year on me with year before last topping 200,000 with the motorcycle wreck and 85k on wife this year I have zero complaints about 2,000 per month premiums.
