Would/Could Sleepyhead corrupt an SD card?

Post by SabrinaFaire » Mon Nov 04, 2013 12:09 pm

I started on CPAP on October 11. My DME asked me to mail in the SD card after 2 weeks so they could get the data off of it and send it on to my Dr. Prior to doing so, I had imported the data into Sleepyhead twice to check it out on my own. When I mailed it off on the 25th, I forgot to do it again. I hadn't heard back from the DME so I emailed this morning to make sure they got it. They said they did, but that the card was defective, and they'll send me a new one. I'm pretty sure that I know the answer to this but is there a way that Sleepyhead could have corrupted the SD card? More likely it got dropped or damaged in transit, but I thought I would check to make sure. I also asked if I could just email the files in, since I have an SD card reader and was told "Your Sd card reader won’t work. It has to be on the Respironics software to read." So, yeah. That's what I'm working with.

Thanks in advance!

I could imagine that your SD card reader on your computer could damage a card -

With the PR System One Pro 60 series machine there is nothing that SleepyHead will/could do to the SD card contents to make it unusable by the software that the DME is using.
Most likely it is some sort of error on their end..either human or maybe they don't have the software needed for a 60 series machine or they messed up in the download and don't want to admit it.

Go get yourself a brand new SD card (generic is fine and doesn't have to be name brand) 1 GB size is more than sufficient but those are getting hard to find so just get a bigger one. They are cheap.
Insert it in your machine and use it. When they finally get around to sending you a new card...insert it in the machine and let the machine write to it...then ship it off to them. Keep your new card that you bought for your use.

The machine will write everything that the DME needs onto the card they send you.

With the new SD card that you bought..the machine will write everything it stores in its internal memory to that card.
The only thing missing will be the wave form (flow rate) graphs because that particular piece of data isn't stored on the machine's internal memory but you will have everything else.

SleepyHead will not corrupt your card, but your computers operating system may, if it decides to write something on the card like an index or other identifying info.
In the dangers of today's world, NSA and all some one may have xrayed your card or passed it to close to a magnetic field (conveyor motor) in the post office.
You can make an image of the SD card and email it to them. You can also get Resscan or Encore software and email them the reports they need.
If they cant receive email today you could still find a fax machine somewhere and fax the report to them. There are several free Efax companies on the web.

It is sad that HIPPA seems to render many medical offices brain dead.

What comes to mind is reading several threads in the past about the Mac operating system wanting to write stuff on the card if you used SleeyHead on a Mac. The simple solution was to move the tab to write protect the card when using SleepyHead and then moving the tab back before you put the card back in the machine.

This was awhile ago and only applied to the Macintosh. I do not own or use Macs so I really do not know what is going on with them.

What has been mentioned about the dangers to the card in transit seems possible.
