Great Resource

Post by scrapkat » Fri Nov 01, 2013 9:55 pm

This site has been the best resource I could have hoped to find. I started CPAP therapy two weeks ago and had such high hopes and excitement to find out what a good night rest actually felt like. No such luck, so far it has been hours spent fighting with the hose and the mask.....BTW, feel just as bad if not worse for lack of sleep. I certainly didn't see this coming! I started to search the internet for information to get advice to help me with the problems I was going thru and found this wonderful forum. I have been through 3 masks in the past 2 weeks, first one was a Resmed Mirage FX. At first it felt pretty comfortable, but after only 2 nights my nose was a raw mess and the mask had started to leak all over the place. Went back to my DME and asked her what I could do, she suggested I try nasal pillows, so she gave me Resmed Swift FX. Unfortunatley I seem to be between sizes, small made me feel suffocated and medium gave me piggy nose . I actually threw the darn thing across the room in frustration and despaired that I could make this work. I was desperate to find answers to help me succeed in my CPAP therapy AND get some real rest! Viola, I found this site searching for answers. From the members here I have found out that the Mirage FX comes in a smaller size than I was originally prescribed. Since I found this mask workable except for the leaks and the raw nose issue (I attributed both to the wrong size mask), I contacted my DME and requested the woman's small size. Was an improvement, but still battling with leaks and some soreness. With more searches through old threads on this forum I found out about Padacheeks, ordered a mask liner that arrived today. Took a nap with it today and it was so amazingly comfortable and NO leaks! Also found advice about hanging my hose from my headboard to reduce the drag on my mask. Hubby helped me set up a system to keep my hose at the same level as my face and has helped so much. I simply want to thank all of you for sharing your stories and experience to help newbies like me adjust to this new part of their life. I have found a lot more information on my problems than I ever got from the doctors or DME. Thank you so much for the sharing and the support you give newbies like me!

I was between Swift FX sizes , also. I finally switched to the Respironics Nuance Pro and love it. If you want to go back to pillows, you might give it a try.
