Sleep doc appt tomorrow

Post by Catnapper » Tue Oct 29, 2013 7:09 pm

Complying with the Medicare rules, I will be seeing my sleep doc tomorrow for my yearly visit. Now that I have been having OSA therapy for over 7 years I don't check my data every day - actually I have been very bad about checking it at all lately. I decided It might be a good idea to check tonight so there are no surprises tomorrow.

I feel delighted to report that my average AHI for the last six months is 0.6. Not too shabby. Average time in large leak per day is 0 seconds.

I think the doc will be happy with me. What do you think?

Actually, the doc may be more like or even (:| (sorry, we don't have that one on here, but it is meant to be a yawn!).

Seriously, congratulations - keep up the good work.

Joanie,

It is always good to hear from old friends. Sounds like you have things dialed in just right. It is a true joy when we get this all tweaked and are sleeping well. CPAP is your friend.

Congratulations on the great reports.

Karen

Hi

I have never been away, just not posting much. Good to see old friends for me too.

I hoped my results might encourage newbies or anyone having problems (such as I once was) that when you finally get the right combination of mask, machine and pressure that it works and works well for a long time.

I continue to use the famous Headrest mask that did wonders for my therapy.

Congratulations!

What is a famous Headrest Mask?

I have only been here 3 years and never heard of it.

The Headrest nasal pillow mask has been discontinued but it used to have a lot of faithful users and a good number of those people stockpiled the mask so they wouldn't have to find something else.

I used to have one source where it was still available..that site also reports it being out of stock.

I had 13 masks before I reluctantly tried that scary looking Headrest mask. I had read several people here used it but "deconstructed" it by removing all that dreadful head gear and then tying the mask on the face using panty hose. I was almost sure it was just an inside joke to trick newbies, but I was desperate. Turned out to be the best mask decision ever. The exhaust goes overhead, so no annoying breeze straight in front. The mask makes some noise but otherwise it works. Light, comfortable, fits well, no leaks. I wish someone would follow that lead and create a new mask with similar features. In the meanwhile, I have a stockpile that I guard well. I make a head gear that works better for me than the panty hose strap.

I am back from my sleep doc appointment. He liked my data sheet and he pointed at all the good numbers, even 100% compliance. Well duh.

He went on to tell me his frustration at the way Medicare had chosen out of town DMEs for our area so that there was no face to face service for cpap supplies. He told me the choices his father and other family or friends had done to resolve this problem although he did not make a direct suggestion. It turns out that if I wanted to change my DME his office has to do it for me. Now, daggone it, I am a pretty independent person, and used to making medical decisions for myself. Anyway, I bowed to the red tape of Medicare and asked him to make the changes for me. He is a terrific doc and I have been lucky there. I will see him again in a year or so.
