Well crap. If it wasn't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all.
Sending you a big hug...just because I want to and I suspect you probably need it. That's about all I can do from here.

Thanks, Pugsy. Life certainly does like sending me twists and turns, that's for sure. Between my disease, my adopted daughter basically telling us to "F" off and walking out of our lives, this new pain and just my overall issues --

Are we having fun yet?

I was so drained yesterday that I kept bursting into tears over really stupid things. My poor son (also adopted so who knows how that will turn out) -- he couldn't figure out what to do. I think he was glad he had to work last night so he wouldn't be around if/when I burst into tears again (which I didn't).

All I can do now is wait for the nurse or one of the other doctors to call me back and deal with THIS right now. I feel awful that my doctor passed away, but it doesn't change the fact that I still hurt like an SOB.

Dear Madalot,
If you have had the shingles for two weeks, I doubt that the anti viral will help you now. Those are to be taken within 72 hours of the outbreak. Have you thought about getting the Shingles vaccine? Once your problem clears up maybe you want to get the vaccine. I have had shingles before I was old enough to get the vaccine. I should have paid out of pocket knowing what I know now! I finally got the vaccine so hopefully I won't get the shingles again.
Hope you find out what is causing you so much pain. Have you looked up Pancreatitis? It has the same symptoms that you are describing. Hope you get to see a doctor soon.

Carrie

Madalot,

What an incredible stretch of bad luck you're having ....

Like Pugsy, I'm sending you hugs and warm wishes and prayers that something soon will turn out positive for you.

Crossing my fingers and hoping:
  • that you don't have shingles
  • that one of the other docs in the practice will take you on as a patient
  • that the docs will figure out what the new pain is and that it will be something they can do something about or that it will get better on its own in a finite amount of time

You may be right. I think the rationale right now is to find out *IF* this pain is shingles. If it's not, they need to keep looking to see what is causing it. If they test for shingles and it's positive, I may just have to wait it out, but at least we'll know.

The Physical Therapist is pretty certain about another issue causing the muscle portion of this. But I can't do any physical therapy until this other pain is gone. Just leaning back in a chair is excruciating.

I don't want to research too many things because I could make myself crazy trying to figure it out. I think there is no doubt I have more than one issue going on so it's probably best to leave it to the experts.

Well holy sh*t. Who in universe is playing games with you? THis is beginning to remind me of the old Bill Cosby skit where God says "How long can you thread water, hee,hee hee?"

Oh and if someone comes along and tells you that this is just the universe teaching you something you need to learn, feel free to hit them with your cane, hard.

You may want to get in touch with the neurologists office, maybe they can do an emergency referral of some sort.

At any given time in my life, I've asked "what in the heck did I do to deserve this?" but it's a fruitless question as there is never an answer to it.

But if anyone were to tell me it's the universe teaching me a lesson, I will laugh at them or run over their toes with my wheelchair and tell them that's ME teaching THEM a lesson.

Seriously though -- we've all heard the saying that God never gives us more than we can handle, but damn man, come on!

I contacted my Neurologists office to let them know. The problem on that front is I live 1.5 hours from the Neurologists (major university hospital). It's better to keep my PCP closer to home since it's very hard for me to get anywhere, let alone 1.5 hours away.

I'm hoping that for now, one of the other doctors in the practice will pick me up and crossing my fingers I like him. But I've also gotten on the local hospital's website and printed a list of all the Internal Medicine & Family Practice doctors. Most of them I have to cross off, but there are couple that *might* be possible *if* they're taking new patients and *if* they're not afraid of me.

Afraid of me -- that's comical.

I'm sorry if it appears that way, but I assure you, I AM thinking of him, his family and his other patients. I have let the office know that I am deeply saddened by all of their losses and even said I understood if they couldn't help me.

THEY said that they still have a practice and patients and that they will do what they can.

Perhaps I should have made that clear.

I'm not cold hearted and I care deeply about the loss of him that is NOT about me.

But this doesn't change the fact that I still have a serious problem that needs attention. I'm trying to be supportive and understanding of the loss, while still dealing with my own needs at this moment, that haven't stopped because he's passed away.

Jamis,

You have been very supportive and helpful to me. And I have appreciated more than you know. I thought you and I were on a good level as far as these types of relationships go.

If you felt this way, why couldn't you just pop me a PM instead of posting this like this? Do you know how cruel it was to publicly chastise me for your belief that I am being self absorbed?

Thanks for embarrassing me publicly. I really needed that.

Are you absolutely sure you can't get to an urgent care center and at least have a little imaging done?

I understand you think it's muscular, and probably even convinced the doctors also. But without definitive tests there's no way to know what's going on inside. There are a few organs in that region that could be acting up. I've even heard gallbladder issues can cause left-sided pain.

What did your blood work show? CBC, CRP, etc?

I'll try not to pester you anymore..

Hope you feel better soon!

I hope Maddy won't mind if I add something to the discussion. She and I have had some long conversations privately and even when things are darkest for her both personally and physically, she always, always wants to know how we're handling our own issues which are many. It always amazes me that she could care so much about others and as a result she brings out the best in me. Life is a great teacher.

Haven't had any yet, other than a re-test for a specific neuromuscular disease.
jdr999 wrote:I'll try not to pester you anymore..
You're not pestering me. I definitely need to get another evaluation of this, which is what I am trying to do. I'm waiting on a call back from the nurse right now to see what they are recommending I do.

Thanks, Dori. I really do care deeply about the people in my life.

Unfortunately, the tears are streaming down my face. Sometimes all it takes is one little, tiny thing to just be too much.

I liked my doctor a LOT. Not just as my doctor, but as a person. He will be missed terribly by everyone. I'm still half in shock over his passing. Like every other time someone in my life has died, a part of me thinks this is all a big joke and this person is still here.
