Data Interpretation, please for a newbie

Post by Olivia » Fri Oct 25, 2013 9:35 pm

Hi, Well, after having what I thought was a great night, I decided to look at the data. I am new to Sleepyhead and CPAP talk and I really have just started to learn how to interpret the data. What would cause the 225am data. Back sleeping?? For some reason even though I had the mask on from 1130pm, that data was not captured. It doesn't look like my A-flex CPAP responded to my apnea events? I have been having some rough nights nice last Friday as I have a very swollen neck/throat from a long surgery. I'm not really sure how to attach a photo bucket link so hope I did it right. I appreciate all the help I have been given. Thanks, Olivia

Your snoring.. You need more pressure most likely...

Review this video this should explain to you what is going on: http://www.resmed.com/us/multimedia/und ... 40x380.swf

And what evidence of snoring is there??? Particularly at 2:30? There are no VS's recorded anywhere near that troublesome cluster.

Questions to the OP: Were you sound asleep during that nasty cluster? If so, the timing is right where it could be your first REM cycle. Did your sleep study say anything about your OSA being worse during REM? Bumping up the min pressure setting from 9 to 10 might help. If you make the change, you should leave it there for a week or so before re-evaluating what's going on.

My Neurologist told me your are not supposed to snore. It means there is a problem..
My cat told me if I don't stop snoring I would have to move

I seen 5 events on that screen shot. She asked for Interpretation so I gave her mine if it is OK with you!
That was the first thing My Neurologist looked at. That was my experience..

Thanks for the feedback. I did not think of snoring as my snore graph showed no snoring and I have not been known to snore. I just thought that patch looked nasty. I slept well, except I remember the hose becoming disconnected at one point, briefly. I then woke up around 530 after my usual 5-6 hours of sleep and then fell back to sleep mask-less for two hours. No, my sleep report did not indicate OSA being worse during REM. I only had 9% REM sleep. I am having a sleep study at Stanford on the 6th so expect some adjustments on my parameters. Thanks.

I see the 11:30 time frame data on the top events graph.
There are a couple of small snore clusters showing around 23:30...so it is recording.
The other graphs it looks like you have highlighted the time from about 00:45 until about 05:30 putting that ugly cluster of OAs in the middle of the graphs. That's indicated by the lighter and darker shaded areas on the top graph.
Why that ugly cluster and the machine not responding effectively? Most likely either supine sleeping or REM stage sleep or combination of both. The minimum pressure couldn't do a good job preventing the collapse of the airway for whatever reason it occurred. Both supine sleep and REM stage sleep are commonly known to sometimes need more pressure. I see it myself often but my issues are mainly REM stage sleep.

Are you still taking any pain meds from whatever surgery you had? They might account for the OA cluster because pain meds can cause the airway tissues to collapse even more...the tissues get more relaxed with the meds.

If you are still recuperating from some type of surgery...I don't know that I would do much of anything at this point. If your throat is still sore from the intubation tube things simply aren't back to "normal" yet.

To show your report image without having to do the link...just copy that last line in the little box of addresses that show up when you are looking at the report and paste that copied link (bottom of that box) into the body of your post here and it should show up.
You copied just the url link... I copied the IMG link (last line in that box of 4 addresses for this image).

Thanks for the info. I am on no pain meds, but the occasional Motrin. I have taken Ambien for many years and I am in the process of weaning myself off. I took 5mg at 11pm on the night of the data. Ive had two doctors say Ambien does not impact OSA, but i don't believe them . I'd rather be sleepless than apneic. Thanks for the tip on how to display the data. I did find the IMG link and copied it and sent an email to myself but it still showed just an address. I have leaned so much on this site. Olivia
