Hello folks,
I'm a CPAP user of about 6 months. I've not gotten fully adjusted yet. Some weeks are terrible and others are just OK.
Lately I have begun removing my mask and powering off my machine without being aware of it. This usually happens about 2 hours after going to sleep. I'm taking 5 mg Zolpidem (sp.? - it's the generic Ambien) at bedtime to help me get to sleep. The mask removal seems to happen whether I take these meds or not.
Looking for any pointers on this. I've been thinking of setting an alarm for 3 hours after I go to bed, but I know that's going to annoy the crap out of my wife. Another thing I read was that my machine should have a leak alarm, but since I'm turning the machine off I don't think that will help much.
Looking forward to your replies!

Re: Tips to prevent mask removal
It would help to know what mask you are using. Could you list that info please?

Put some tape on your mask and face. When you unknowingly remove the mask, it will wake you up. Use surgical tape so it doesn't take hide off. This is a common problem.

Thanks Sheriff, I'll try that.
Froggy: it's a full-face ResMed Quattro Air mask.

Another oft-suggested thing is to wear the mask for a few hours each day while you are awake. You could be watching TV, etc. It could be disconnected or you could have the xPAP running as well (if you have to prove compliance this can help).
The idea is that you need your subconscious mind to accept this intrusion and not think of it as something to "deal with".
Its funny how we are so sophisticated and yet so unable to control aspects of our own selves.

Sleep loss is a terrible thing. People get grumpy, short-tempered, etc. That happens here even among the generally friendly. Try not to take it personally.

Right on, Sheriff. Tape that sucker down. Trust me it works. I like 3M NexCare mulitpore tape cuz sticks tight, then it comes off fairly easily in the morning - if you take your time peeling it off with some saliva, hot water, mineral oil or whatever.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
