And no, I don't have a spare room or even a recliner to test drive it in. Though it's a good idea to just get out the manual and read it and ponder it a bit before getting off my fat ass, taking all the freakin' books off the bookcase because I've screwed up the plug/extension cord setup and buried the power outlet behind a bookcase that is really too big for the room, dust everything off (which will probably imperil my life with my asthma), unplug the old machine, clean it up, and store it away and THEN put the new machine in place, plug it in, and figure it out.

Though I must say last night's episode of RAINOUT: The Next Generation is making me more inclined to try the new heated hose gizmo.

Okay, I've had my coffee. Time to go get productive.

As for what I look like in my mask and headgear... I once asked a romantic partner to take pix of me in all of it, in different sleeping positions, so I could share those pix with newbies who asked me about my homemade headgear setup. He was remarkably immune to the sight of me in it all - he afterall had his own cross to bear with a very large facial tumour he could not escape day or night. But when I saw the pix I wanted to just slit my wrists...

I forget where you live but if you have ever battled rain out in the winter you will love the heated hose.
Not that using a hose cozy is bad but not having the added weight on the long hose tugging on the mask is a huge plus.
It got down to 40 degrees here last night and I had the window open. Slept great. My nose prefers maximum humidity and I would have been snorting water and listening to the gurgling in the hose for sure last night if I hadn't been using the heated hose.
I switched to the heated hose a couple of weeks ago when the nights started getting cooler and I was having some rain out issues and it wasn't nearly as cool as it was last night.
I don't put any cozy on my heated hose. I like not having the added weight myself since I also prefer no hose management thing to route the hose over my head.

Thanks Pugsy. I'm in Western Washington, just south of Seattle. Temperate climate, low humidity. I normally run at 3 all year round, with some little bits of rainout in the winter. But for some odd reason my humidifier chamber as been bone dry in the morning the last few weeks. I normally don't run all the water out of it. It's kind of a mystery. Not particularly cold here yet, either. I'm not sure what's going on. And the room was - if anything - overheated last night, because I kept kicking the covers off. Don't say it. I'm PRE menopausal, thank you very much. Well, most days...

I don't fight much with my hose. It just lays there out of my way, and I don't find the added weight of the snuggly gives me any problems. Occasionally it will pull itself into a weird angle off the top of my head, and I just automatically reach up and re-position it where I like it. When I first started, I was certain I'd be fighting with the hose all night long, and certain I'd want a hose hanger, but running it over the top of my head has never been a problem for me.

I really need to quit goofing off online and go start doing chores.

Pre menopause huh? Good luck. Just wait till it hits full blown. My husband tells everyone he has permanent burn scars on his back from my hot flashes. Even now after 10 years they still rear their ugly head on occasion. I chose not to do the hormone thing because of history of breast cancer in my family. My sister chose to do the hormone thing and was making all sorts of fun at me until she had to stop the hormone therapy due to heart attack and then she had to deal with the hot flashes and bitchiness. She thought she could skate through things but realized all she did was postpone them. I got the last laugh on that one.

The humidity delivery method with the new machines is more constant. Typically they don't use as much water either.
I am in Missouri so not really all that dry and I pretty much use all the water with 8 hours of sleep because I like to max it out.
The only time I don't use much water is when it is raining outside and I have the window open.
Didn't use much last night because it rained all day yesterday and it was still very humid at bedtime.

If your machine is using all the water now with the same amount of sleep time then there may be a problem with over heating because the older machines just used heat only because there were no sensors to bring the ambient room humidity into the picture.
Your water usage should not vary much unless the heating system is maybe acting up or pressure needs change or leaks are increasing.

I wondered if maybe I'd inadvertently raised the temperature when fumbling around one night. I definitely set it to 3 last night. I should go check the water level.

If I sleep in on the weekends, it often runs dry, which I expect. But lately it's been running dry during the week, when I typically don't get more than 7-8 hours of sleep a night - if that, because dammit I'm really enjoying that novel and I want to delay the inevitable hell of morning as long as possible.

And the machine could be getting old. Which is why I bought a new one.

What do you think the temperature was in the bedroom?
Does it get even close to the 40 degrees?

With that low a temperature, I would have thought that even the heated hose would have had trouble keeping the rainout at bay.

I suspect it got fairly close to the low. We had a cold front come in yesterday AM and the temps were in the 40's pretty much all day and it rained most of the day too. When I went to bed it was rather cool in the house because I had left all the windows open...all day and all night. I was watching TV last night sitting with a little blanket around me. Hubby was bitching because the house was cold..and the night before last night he was bitching because the bedroom was too warm. We were joking about it because I told him that at least he wouldn't be to hot last night.

I live in a little tiny old farmhouse that doesn't have much insulation. So it's not like the house retained the warmth from the prior day and since it was rather cold with the rain all day yesterday I have no doubt that we probably got down to at least 45 degrees in the house.
I had the 60 series heated hose set to max of 3 humidity level with temp setting of 4. I didn't have any rain out last night.
I did have some rain out a couple of weeks ago with the non heated hose and a rather cool night (but not as cool as last night) which caused me to take the heated hose out and use it.

We did close the windows this morning. I just now checked the temp in the house and it is 63 degrees. It was much colder last night. I am quite comfortable now and no need for blanket on the couch like I used last night.
So I am fairly certain that last night the temp inside the house dropped well below 50. Probably at least 45.
The heated hose didn't allow any condensation...even in the short hose or at the mask level where I used to have to use a barrel cozy in the past.

Update: I took it out of the box and it's sitting on the floor near where it should live.

That was entirely enough for one day.

I agree, my company recently replaced all of our cell phones with "smartphones". My boss asked if I was using my new smartphone, and I told him, "Yes, but I don't see much of a difference. It's a lot like my old phone. I get several phone calls on it every day..."

Update #2 - I bought it a card reader. It's coming.

Sigh... I really do have to completely take apart that bookcase and re-arrange everything. Did I mention it's as tall as the ceiling and about 4 feet wide? Sigh... Dust... I could die from this you know. Disturbing all that dust can't be good for me...
