My machine made bubbly noises last night.

Post by luke1985 » Mon Sep 16, 2013 8:12 am

Okay, in the middle of the night. My machine decides to make bubbly noise. I found out it was from water. I don't know how though. It ruin some of my sleep but still wide awake. I had to turn the humditifer off. This cause my through to be really dry. I am thinking of getting the climateline tube now. What do you guys think, and is it smart to order off ebay for it? I m on a tight budget and cannot get one with medicare for 3 months. I am afraid of paying the DME because it will cost a lot more. Please help.

I'm starting to get bubbly noises and rainout, too. I've used a regular hose all spring and summer, but the weather's changing now. It looks like it's time to pull my heated hose out of the closet.

I've used eBay for years and have only rarely had problems with it. I've come out ahead despite the occasional bad order.

In the meantime...until you get a ClimateLIne hose there is something you can do to limit the condensation in the hose...and yes it makes a horrible racket...
Make sure the machine is set lower than your mattress. This allows for gravity to help the condensation run back down to the humidifier. It helps somewhat but probably not totally...do you have some fleece material laying around the house?
You can wrap a layer of fleece around the long hose and have a homemade hose cozy. It will help insulate the hose to lessen the chance of rain out.
Rain out (condensation in the hose or mask) occurs when the room air temp is cooler which causes cooling of the humidified air in the hose or mask...cooler air can't hold as much moisture so it gets released in the form of condensation which we call rain out.
Anything you can do to limit the air in the hose from cooling will help.
A homemade hose cozy will help..just wrap the material around the hose and secure it with something..I did one with scotch tape once...wasn't real pretty but it work.

You had rainout in your mask/hose! Condensation from the wet warm air in hose and colder air in bed room . First put your machine lower than your mattress, then put a hook above your headboard to hang your hose from . Use something like a girls hair scrunchy to give the hose some stretch room - don't kink the hose. . That enables the water to run back into the humidifier and also helps reduce machine noise.
You can put a hose cozy on your hose to insulate it . Some people use old socks on hose until they buy a real hose cozy - cut the toe out and slip on . The hose insulation also quiets your breathing sounds- the darth vader effect.
You can also buy a hose hanger on amazon for about 10 bucks . I still use a hook on headboard to stabilize my hose hanger system . You will find that getting the hose under control gets the pulling weight off of the mask reducing leaks. Leave enough room to turn from side to side at night. You can add a short 18 inch hose with inline swivel helps. Cpap.com has them .
Using a climate line hose usually means upgrading your humidifier and power supply also. On secondwindcpap.com or cpap.com they sell the kit for certain repirionics machine for 75 bucks.
It is hard to say exactly-as you haven't listed your equipment under user profile .

A less expensive approach is to stop at your local fabric store and get some fleece fabric, cut pieces about 8 inches wide and wrap them around the hose and secure wih Velcro strips. This will insulate your hose quite well. If you get a little rainout in the short hose, you can add an additional strip around that part as well. When I did this, I got two yards of fabric so I would have a single piece 6 feet long.

ClimateLine hoses are specific to the ResMed S9 machines. Nothing else is needed...no additional power supply or anything like that.
Just the hose.
OP is using a ResMed S9 machine. I see it in the equipment profile.

Now.. yes..the Respironics 60 series machines require additional equipment to convert to heated hose system but ResMed S9 machines don't need anything but the heated hose. Everything is already there.

Okay I am getting the climate line hose. I want to see if this helps before I go get an hose cover or make one. Thanks for all the sugestions. I hope tonight I don't hear any bubble noises. LOL I first thought it was the hose and tried moving it in the middle of the night. I went back to sleep, before long I was like why am I getting water in my face. I turned the hudmifer off and was shacking the hose to get the water out. What temp should I start with the climateline? It gets to about 67 in the house at night. I am not using the furanace, as of now.

Start the temp out at what feels comfortable to you...maybe 74 to 78 degrees. See if that's enough warmth for now but not too warm to feel like a sauna. That's sort of middle of the road...it will go up to 86 degrees which will feel good in the winter with a cold bedroom but may feel too warm right now.

The temp control works really well. I had it set on 73. I still had a dry mouth but not as bad. I will try increase the temp tonight. For some reason last night I had my mask off with blowing full force air. I looked at the reports and it was not for long. I don't remember taking my mask off. I hope I don't get into that habit. In other news, I try to turn my furnace on and its not working. How can things go wrong.
