Headgear with chin strap

Post by krousseau » Tue May 16, 2006 9:53 am

I've been using the FP Flexifit 406 (with it's headgear)-and a Tiara adjustable chin strap. The Tiara covers a lot of skin-it's getting hot-and it slips around a bit anyway. We are having pollen storms with yellow everywhere so having more mouth openings not controlled by the Tiara. I like the hose over my head but have found the scrunchie and hook at the top of the bed limits my movement. And I’m developing a cowlick.

I solved all of the above by making a "Universal Headgear" with Chinstrap and Hoseholder.

List of materials:
sleepnet holey cap, two Velstretch straps from Lowe’s

Making the Headgear:
Got a sleepnet holey cap Cut off the long strap at the forehead if you don't need it.
Made a sturdy velstretch underchin strap with velcro hook at both ends-to fit my head. I had to cut the Velcro hook tabs off existing straps-flip it over and sew it back to the rest of the strap to get the comfortable side of the Velcro against my skin and the hook side in the right position to stick to the cap-you could cover it with one of Pad-a-Cheeks tubes. The chinstrap could also be used as an additional attachment point for a full face mask-like the panty hose leg.
There is another short strap at the top to hold the hose.

Wearing the headgear:
Put the cap on-held the mask in place and just stuck the velcro ends at what ever angle was best to hold my mask securely-without being tight. The chinstrap went on next-just velcroed to the cap and under the chin. Attached the hose to the top of the cap.

I like the neatness of the stretchy velcro fabric I can smooth my hair under the cap. With the holes it was more comfortable than the Tiara-it was off my face. The hose followed me around comfortably without any other attachments. The chinstrap stayed in place nicely and worked far better than i imagined it would. It has a vertical force only AND I can put additional padding under the strap that puts a little extra pressure upward on the area under the base of my tongue. That supported my jaw, kept my tongue in place and maintained my mouth seal very well. I got some short pieces of velcro to put where the chin strap goes over the lower mask straps just to make it more secure-didn't sew them on they just get applied after the cap and straps are all in place.

This is the easy set-up. If you don't mind sewing you can get this setup much more customized by removing the straps that come with the holey gear and re attach them where ever you need them.

Just realized that I can also attach my CD earphone to the cap near my ear instead of falling asleep with it in my ear.
