To the "Answer Team" regarding S9 Autoset and ASV therapy
It has recently come to my attention that the models of the S9 used for ASV therapy in the UK contain the word Autoset In the model name. It appears that the US model of the S9 VPAP Adapt sold prior to October 2012 is similar to what is marketed in the UK as the S9 Autoset CS (Ref: 36140). It would appear that the current S9 VPAP Adapt in the US is similar to what is marketed in the UK as the S9 Autoset CS-A (Ref: 36211).
With this in mind, the statement that "the S9 Autoset does not treat central apnea" is no longer a true statement unless you know the exact model.

The CSA has that extra part with a button in the middle. What is that?STL Mark wrote:It has recently come to my attention that the models of the S9 used for ASV therapy in the UK contain the word Autoset In the model name. I see it on our COPD and ST-A models, The user guide states:
Alarm mute button: Pressing once mutes an alarm. Pressing a second time unmutes it. If the
alarm is enabled by the clinician, the blue therapy LED is on during therapy. The alarm LED is
flashing yellow during an alarm.

You are funny. I just never saw that before. I was looking at that last night. Do we have Pacewave?

Maybe we don't have those particular machines cause they haven't been approved by the FDA.

Speaking of machines we don't have in the US check out the Respironics A30. It has a really nice display that even displays the oximeter information.

Other places get so much cool stuff first. (sigh)
I wonder what else they are holding out on us?
Or what they will pull out of their hat in response to whatever the Koreans bring out.

Speaking of oximetry data, do you know of a source for the broadband/oximetry module and associated pieces?STL Mark wrote:Speaking of machines we don't have in the US check out the Respironics A30. It has a really nice display that even displays the oximeter information.

Well, if we weren't so moribund by slap happy lawyers ready to sue at at the slightest hitch in a new product, maybe we would have new products sooner also.chunkyfrog wrote:Other places get so much cool stuff first. (sigh)

I don't understand, the FDA approves drugs after a 6 week trial that turn out to later have horrific side effects but yet, they seem to be so cautious about pap machines and masks. What am I missing?idamtnboy wrote:Well, if we weren't so moribund by slap happy lawyers ready to sue at at the slightest hitch in a new product, maybe we would have new products sooner also.chunkyfrog wrote:Other places get so much cool stuff first. As a country, we seem to think that the "experts" will manage our risk, and our cares will fade into the ether. You want something guaranteed "safe" and guaranteed "effective", then FDA's for you. We pay for the nose for this -- both in blood and in treasure.49er wrote:I don't understand, the FDA approves drugs after a 6 week trial that turn out to later have horrific side effects but yet, they seem to be so cautious about pap machines and masks. If you want to manage your own risk in consultation with your physician without the FDA horning in, you're screwed. Had a friend. His dad had incurable lung cancer. There was a clinical trial of a new medication. His dad wanted the experimental medication, but to sign on to the study, you had to sign a consent allowing them to treat you with placebos (sugar pills) so the overall study would be statistically valid. Safety has a price.
