Block out the light!
Block out the light!
So, I work an overnight shift at my current job which means I sleep from around 10a-7p. Kinda sucks but it works for me. I have had sleep apnea and a machine for over a year now, but due to some difficulties I don't use it that often.
Anywho, I decided a few weeks ago to get healthy and have been really working on myself personally by changing diet and exercising, the last thing I have been afraid to tackle is the CPAP and mask.
Long story short I was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations of eye masks to block out light that won't conflict with a cpap mask.
FYI, I use a Sleepnet phantom mask and I hate it, I wanna get a ResMed nasal mask and am currently saving money for one.

I use one made of memory foam... the company that sold it doesn't exist any longer so I can't send you a link. The problem that a lot of sleep masks have with xpap equipment is when you have the forehead support, they don't work as well.
editted... found one on Amazon that looks like what I use http://www.amazon.com/Heat-Sensitive-Re ... B004K1EK42

I use blackout curtains, but with a window unit AC the light gets in, also it comes in through the sides if you don't staple/tape the curtains down.Sleep2Die4 wrote:Instead: blackout curtains?recommendations of eye masks to block out light that won't conflict with a cpap mask.

Here is what I would do next if in your position. Go to one of the discount drugstores (CVS or other) and buy the cheapest sleep mask they have - $2 - $3. You may even find them at a dollar store.
Use this mask for your trials. It may work perfectly. Otherwise it is a good trial to see what features you need in a mask before spending more money on some super-dooper model.
During the summer the sun hits my shutters too early for me. I tried wearing the cheap eye mask the airlines give you on overseas flights. After a few nights I decided an eye mask is not for me.
Good luck.

Re: Block out the light!
When I started working overnights (midnight to 8:30 AM; I was used to working daytime hours before this), I bought mine at Walgreens for $8.99 + tax (http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/walgre ... 28-product).
My mask is a ResMed Mirage FX nasal mask, which covers just the nose. It fits over the mask where it needs to (the bridge of the nose, mostly), and is comfortable, too.
I have darker curtains on the bedroom window, which helps, as well.
Now, actually SLEEPING during the day with all this on is a different story.

These are the ones I like... they call them silicone eye shields. They take a few nights to get used to but I find them very comfortable.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
Re: Block out the light!
Such a mask as this would sure interfere with my nasal mask.

A better approach might be diving goggles and you smear the glasses with a marks a lot.

Re: Block out the light!
I've used just plain old sleep masks like you might find at Wal Mart even with full face masks with a forehead piece like the Quattro. The trick is to put the mask under the forehead piece.

Re: Block out the light!
My brother has been using the masks from Walmart ($8) for about 5 years now. He uses one to hold his mask in place (he has a beard) and one over his eyes. They hold up quite well. When they start to split apart (they will), I simply zig zag all around and they get another 7-8 months of use. Usually the elastic eventually breaks off the mask and the repair caused too much skin chafing. I usually get him 4 new ones whenever they are on sale (twice a year) or during the senior discount week (20% off).

Re: Block out the light!
A combination of black out roller shades for the 1st layer. Over that- blackout drapes using the curtain rods that curve into the wall on both sides. JC pennys has all of it.
Another option- when I was in college and broke-- aluminum foil taped to the window block out 100 percent of light. then curtains over the top hide the foil. (that is, if you don't mind what it looks like on the street side)
PS my husband says our bedroom looks like a dungeon. Thats a good thing.
Also, paint the walls a dark color. Makes a big difference.

Re: Block out the light!
You can buy black out fabric at Joann Fabrics. Wait for a sale. Way cheaper than shades.

Re: Block out the light!
Speaking of which; they grabbed my second silver hat before I was conscious, so I just have the one.
Hubby says he's immune, so we should be OK.
That silver Tyvek does block the light quite well, but if you buy any quantity of Mylar, someone calls the pot Nazi's.
