Can Periodic Breathing be mask-sensitive?

Post by old dude » Thu Aug 29, 2013 7:02 am

I had what seems to be an odd occurrence last night. Keep in mind that my PB number normally runs from 0% to 2% over the four months of my therapy, and although I've tried many FFMs I have primarily used the Mirage Quattro and the Quattro Air. I had been using the Quattro Air for the last two weeks while trying to heal a nose sore caused by the regular Quattro. So last night for the first time in two weeks I went back to the Quattro, and left it a little looser than usual. After a few hours sleep session my AHI was 2.1, Large Leaks were 0% but my PB was 11%! I've never had a PB percentage that high.

So just trying to isolate variables, is it possible that changing masks back to the Quattro from two weeks with the Quattro Air could have somehow caused this, or is it just one of those flukey things that is what it is?

It would be helpful if you show present data and from before.
Why don't you give your age?

You need more than one night's data to be able to correlate mask change with any PB issues.
It could easily have just been a fluke night. By your own admission you wore it looser than before. Maybe the leak increased a little...maybe awake/semi awake more.
Would also need to investigate the timing of the PB episodes.

But to answer your question...no it is not something that is commonly seen to have a lot of PB with one mask and not another with all other things the same.
